I agree.

But I said the talk was different this time.

Yeah, I know what you were saying. I'm just saying, I don't think it will matter much. It seems like this team doesn't take what Fred has to say very seriously.

Fred warned them beforehand how important this game was, and they still went out and laid an egg and didn't put forth any kind of effort. Not sure how "coachable" this group is? They seem to do what they want.... like chucking up horrible 3's early in the shot clock, etc.

Folks, I have been a fan of Big 8/Big 12 basketball now for over 50 years. History tells me that on the road, any team, regardless how good, needs to limit mistakes and play inspired defense, regardless of the opponent, in order to bring home a win. I seriously doubt that ever changes. It is what KU has historically done very well.

Sometimes I get the feeling some posters would rather see us lose games to make their predictions come true.

we just play **** defense

Tubby after the game:

"we were open because of the way they were defendng us.''

Yes - we shot poorly but still can win a game with cold shooting if there is some good d. Most entertaining games so far this year with best offensive production have been games where great d opened up things for the o.

This team is still missing a couple of pieces to win reliably: need another big like Gaithers and another dependable 3 pt. shooter. That with our current guys would be a conference champion and final 4 contender. Until that exists, got to play exceptional defense to contend.

Then that's on Fred, not the players. We have players who have no interest in playing hard defense (TTech players after the game said as much) and they stay on the court. That's on Fred.

I've lurked CF for awhile now, but i need to say something about this team. First, i had some issues with deandre kane last year even though i know he is a great player but its clear now more than ever that without him we just aren't mentally tough enough. We get down big, we panic, we jack up threes and try to make it up immediately to catch up, and we don't even run our offense. Second, we need to feed Niang in the post. He is an inside out player not an outside in player. If we get him on the block he can finish down low, pass, or set a pick and pop/roll. That was the foundation of our offense last year and we haven't done it consistently at all this year.
Fully agree. We will find out how much heart this team has. EVERY GAME needs to be played like your last. I had high hopes of winning the B12 this year but it looks like KU gets another. I don't see them losing 2 more games the way they put Texas away today on the road.

I disagree with this part. What we need is our star forward to play a lick of defense once in a while. Oh, and rotating to play some help defense when someone gets beat on the perimeter would be nice. Haven't seen that in a very long time. Keeping track of shooters in transition wouldn't hurt as well.

There are so many defensive deficiencies with this team, it's maddening to watch sometimes. Everyone thought our defense would be amazing when McKay got eligible, but he can't fix most of the issues this team has on defense.

They were hitting shots and we weren't... We were up I think 8-7 and we just let them run twenty by us .... Hard to come back from down 19. This team should have been able to do it but they were shooting great at the line and kept hitting shots where we were missing. Three games (Maryland, USC and now TTU) we have gone ice cold from 3. We need to figure out how to recover. Lots of heart to get us back in the game but just couldn't catch a break. I really thought that we should have gotten a T at the end there but that's how it goes. Everything marginal went TTU's way. Life on the road. Shouldn't have bothered us at all.

Every time our game is switched to ESPN News, we play like crap.

For once, I agree with CloneDude (please don't hate me). When the opponents are on a run, it seems like we tend to throw the ball around the perimeter and shoot a contested 3 early in the shot clock. I hate those shots because you are almost guaranteed the same shot later in the shot clock.

It’s probably an outlier-loss, but it’s impossible to sugarcoat it.

I do admire the fight (and full-court D strategy) in the second half — many teams would’ve rolled over and played dead when it was 29-10.

On the other hand, teams with aspirations to go beyond Sweet 16 would never get behind by six possessions in the first half vs. a team that hadn't beaten a single team with serious postseason aspirations.

Texas Tech has lost, at home, to the following teams this season:
Loyola, Ill., 13-7, 6th in MVC — by 18 points
Houston, 7-12, 11th, American — by 13 points
Texas (by 9)
West Virginia (by 11)
Kansas (by 32)
TCU — by 20. It was the second-best road win for TCU (vs. Ole Miss) and the second best win of any kind for TCU this season.

Tech defeated Air Force (8-11, 10th in MWC) by 1, Auburn (10-8, 9th in SEC), by 2.

This is piling on, yes, but geez …

What do you guys expect? When you go on the road into a hostile environment with literally hundreds of fans, it can get intimidating.

We sucked.

20-1 run against us the first half was irreconciable. Were we out watering the plants?

They could be a great defensive team if they chose to put forth the effort. Please.

Wasn't CFH quoted as saying they try to limit the other team's trips to the free throw line? That seems like a recipe for soft defense. If you're too afraid of fouls you can't play aggressive defense. Also he seems to sit players as soon as they're in a bit of foul trouble. That also inhibits tough defense. If the team has the depth, use it.
