ISU @ KU Postgame

I said it in another thread and I will say it again: We are the 11th ranked team in the country, 2nd in one of the toughest leagues in America and just took the best shot from a great KU team at home and showed fight and kept the game interesting. It's important to have perspective here, people. We are a legitimate contender who has yet to hit it's stride. We have flaws but we have a lot of strengths too. May not win the league this year, but plenty to be excited about.
ISU is not a good team in their half court offense. Decent, but certainly not as good as when their transition game is blowing up. Glad KU sacrificed some boards for their transition defense tonight. Was definitely the difference in the game. Both teams were absolutely gassed at the end so you could tell they all gave everything they had for this one tonight. A well deserved extra few days of rest for both teams before Saturday.
We are a terrible road team with no gimmes left on the road. Going to be tough sledding the rest of the way.
Tuco feel free to just stay over on the KU board for the rest of the night. We really don't want to hear your analysis of the game.
We also got humiliated by a pathetic Texas Tech. This team is wildly inconsistent. Perspective says we're a good team with strengths but we also have weaknesses that are going to kill us in March if we don't fix them.
We're 2-3 on the road with a great win at West Virginia, a curbstomping of Iowa, a 1 point loss on a shot with 4 seconds left against 20th ranked Baylor, and losses against 8th ranked Kansas and at Texas Tech....pretty far from "terrible" if you ask me.
Well I'm just glad that Greene's own crowd didn't BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO him when he went to the table to check in.
This is one thing I just don't understand about some of the posters on this site. These guys played their hearts out tonight and left their guts out on the court. Isn't that all we can ever ask of a bunch of 18-21 year old young adults? As long as the intensity and effort is there, fans should be supportive of their team.
This team needs to find more constant play out of the 7th and 8th player. To be at the level of Kansas, in conference play you have to have program players that can sub in and have good games.
As our 76% win % bears out. Why do people just insist on throwing out dumb crap? Makes me think you don't go to games, you don't watch games, and you read the DSM Rag.
KU played really well on defense and hit shots on offense, in their house. Not going to win under those circumstances.
WRT the perimeter defense, it seemed like we were REALLY focused on doubling in the post and crowding the lane. Yes there were problems with recovery too, but that seemed like the risk Fred was willing to take. Dare them to make 3s, don't let them kill us in the paint. And it didn't work. Had KU missed shots, then we would have had a lot of rebounds because they were hustling back so fast. Unfortunately, they didn't miss many shots.
And no one really had a good game tonight except Georges. Monte was okay, but was pressured a lot. Everyone else was pretty shaky with the ball.
It would have been nice to challenge for the title, but that's pretty much over now. KU is getting better, and everyone seems intimidated by them but us. It'd be nice to get some help from the rest of the league but I don't see it. Maybe WV will get them at Morgantown. I thought 14-4 would be enough to win the league outright, but now... KU could go 15-3 maybe even 16-2. Bummer.

KU missed several open 3s in the first half and ISU missed lots of shots as well. There were several opportunities for ISU to extend the lead to 15 in the first half.

2. Take a look at the play by play on the right hand side and look at all the missed shots by KU from 19 minutes up until about 9 minutes to go in the 1st half.
Looked like we got beat by a team doing what we normally do. They ran, hit the trey, and played defense. We didn't.
Over Bill Self's tenure, KU has averaged an 0.830 conference record. That projects to about 15-3 or 14-4 over an 18 game schedule. They probably have a few losses left in them. That said, at 6-3, we have no margin for error if we hope to take the regular season conference. Now THAT said, all that really matters is to play well enough to secure a good seed in the Tourney and then get hot when it matters.
