Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

I would think the players would be pretty ****** off. Fred returns the best team, one of the best in ISU history with a legit shot at a National Title, and he tells them a week ago that he's leaving? If I'm Niang or McKay or Naz or Monte, I'm ******. At that point I wouldn't care who found out.

Yeah I doubt they would be happy for their coach for going to fulfill one of his dreams. Look at all the VCU players congratulating Shaka when he left and that was to go to another college.

Gentry would be a solid second choice if Hoiberg is offered the job and passes on it. Gentry is an NBA lifer and he has a reputation as a player's coach.

They would actually make a good team if their personalities allowed it. Let Thibs handle the defense and let Gentry run the offense. I think he's the second highest paid assistant behind Tyronn Lue.

What sources are you expecting to leak something out right now? Dandy came out and said what he heard and then said multiple people PMed him saying they heard the same thing. The media isn't going to come out and say anything.

You don't think the media would state anything? Usually the media wants to break the story. If there is credible news that Hoiberg will (not might) be the Bulls' coach as of last week, the story should have been broken already.

You think the players are going to come out and say their coach is leaving?

i think you'd see some cryptic tweets. But maybe not.

Like I said, I can believe dandys story but the player part I kind of doubt.

Yes I do think they would tweet something. Mainly because I am sure it would hurt them and cause them to be a little emotional.

I have always thought CFH was a brilliant man. The type of guy who would keep something like this very close to the vest until an official announcement (and especially until the job was officially open), such as no one but Carol and parents in the loop. So I guess IF all this stuff is real, he maybe isn't as smart as I thought.

No I don't. Why do you think CW and Hines had full stories of TJ getting hired 2 minutes after it got announced. They knew well ahead of time and didn't leak anything

And oh, btw, we're bringing in a 1 year interim coach.

I mean, why don't you just throw the season away.

Not just next season, it would be throwing away multiple seasons. What recruits are we going to get while we have a 1 year interim coach? Maybe a bunch of uncoordinated gingers.

Of course they would. If most reporters had information like this from players or their own inside sources, surely they would be saying it. They aren't known for sitting back and letting someone else get the same information and scoop them.

That's the most unbelievable part of this 'rumor' to me. It would be disastrous for the program, especially with how important the next recruiting class is going to be. I certainly hope Jamie isn't that stupid. Even if it is going to be TJ you have to give him the official HC title.

My opinion is he wants to make the transition as smooth as possible if he leaves and that would mean at least telling JP and your staff as soon as you decided anything. I don't think that's being dumb. The more time they have to prepare for next year the better

Question for twocoach. What would you think of a Danny Manning hire for Iowa State?

making it as smooth as possible would be announcing it as soon as you know. We are already missing out on transfers. That is not helping next year.

Now if there's a chance he changes his mind then you let him wait.

i think you'd hear more leaking from the players.

I think that everyone left on the roster has more respect than that for Fred. Especially if he was up front with them.

Alvin Gentry is a frontrunner? Seems like a bad move if you're Chicago to get rid of Thibodeau for Gentry.

Alvin Gentry is a retread NBA coach. The Bulls can do a lot better than Alvin Gentry.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Why would he not be able to participate in all that? Draft prep and free agency prep is sitting around watching film and then making phone calls. You can do all that from your couch in your pajamas. And NBA training camps open a few weeks before college practice starts. If he is healthy enough to prepare for the next ISU season then he's healthy enough to prepare for an NBA season. Probably less taxing to get ready for the NBA season with the increased staff available to you.

You'll notice I said "fully participate". Sure he can scout and watch film, but that's not fully participating.

Also, it's been stated that he won't be doing any recruiting until July, which (IMO) was one of the reasons TJ was brought back, to cover the many month gap while he is out.

Nothing changes, if you get them in and tell them Fred is going to be here and he leaves we aren't going to keep them anyway.
