Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

the fans don't need to know. But time is money in a coaching search. We have no time and little money.

Little money? Were currently paying Fred 2.2 Million dollars which is more than said NBA coach we would want as a replacement. If we go out and get a coach that isnt already on our staff IF fred leaves then god help me if we dont get a good name such as Archie Miller or someone we know the fan base will be excited about or have confidence in. Pollard better have someone in mind and keep the checkbook flowing or his job will be in jeopardy really quick. Lets just hope Fred stays....

Yeah, I hope that we would open the check book for the right guy. But even though Hoiberg was paid very well, he was still giving us a bit of a hometown discount.

Right. I think we all could agree on the following facts:

1. Fred is Chicago's top and really only target.

2. People in Ames/close to Hoiberg know he is strongly considering it.

3. People in Chicago/close to the Bulls don't think that it is a forgone conclusion that he will take the job.
Well I agree with those but dandy doesnt. And I don't think you do. If you really believe 3 you can't think it is a done deal that he is gone.

Gotta love the people who think their actions have any bearing what so ever on an athletic department's decisions.
All you do is ridicule others, welcome to my ignore list!!

We should make CPR commission based. He gets 500k for each win and the rest goes to whoever the basketball coach this year ...hopefully fred if not we can def hire someone for some major dough that will earn it cause CPR isnt.....

I don't really believe it is a done deal yet. But I am operating under the assumption that it is because there have been zero signs he is not going anywhere.

He earned his contract. He's still paid very little in comparison to other Power 5 coaches.

If he does get fired or leave, we'll have to pay a hell of a lot more to get someone to replace him. Or if we manage to hire someone at a lower level, we'll have to pay to keep him.

But honestly football isn't our problem right now. It's basketball.

Record29–46
Annual salary$1.8 million/year[SUP][/SUP]

Fred made less and he earned a raise based on performance. CPR can do the same and hasnt since his first 2 years. Football is def our problem, Basketball is also of concern if were talking about JP.

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/writer...t-succession-plan-before-letting-thibodeau-go

You read this and you get the feeling we will know within the next day or 2. You get the feeling that he is not ready yet to go to the NBA..

- there is strong doubt among NBA front office sources that he'd be inclined to make the jump.
"He can leave whenever he wants," one front-office source said. "Why now?"

This pretty much says everything dandy said is now bs. It is not a done deal And they won't engage in talks until it is.

Well now you are saying there is a need for a plan?

I thought you weren't at all worried about Hoiberg leaving?

Archie Miller is making $652,167/year. I can see him, as well as many other coaches, being interested in tripling their salary, especially along with the opportunity to coach a Top 10 team.

It's not like he hasn't had opportunities to jump before and he hasn't. I doubt he will now, but it would be worth trying, obviously.

This. Although Miller just signed a long extension but he would be my first choice. Great coach. If JP settles with TJ I'm going to be ******.

I guess I don't understand what you're saying here. The way I read the article is that the bulls will get a commitment from their future coach before they do anything with Thibs. So it's completely possible that Fred would tell the bulls that he wants the job, and now they're working on a trade for Thibs.

Personally, I'm guessing they've asked Fred, and he's still deciding. I think the Bulls are going about this the right way. If they get rid of Thibs first, then Fred turns them down, they may be down to their 3rd or 4th option, which is possibly worse than if they would have just stayed with Thibs.

And by 'they' whoever is leaking stuff for these stories. The Bulls would obviously take him right this second.

Hell maybe they wonder why it is so important that he take this job this year knowing what he has done and what he has coming back at Iowa State. We wonder that too.
His heart, unfinished business all kinds of reasons.

Yep, Fred's decision is gonna have a major impact on the NBA no matter what.
Would love the fact if he stays at ISU it might result in Izzo to the Pelicans. Wow..
But he not elite ;)
