Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Ya well ads aren't always around forever, fans are.

Fans change opinions in the blink of an eye. The angriest fans if he leaves will be the most enthusiastic if he comes back.

The screwed up thing is that even if Fred does come back, after next season we'll have to deal with rumor after rumor that Flip Saunders is ready to settle into a full time management role for the Timberwolves (he is already President of Basketball Operations) and Fred will be the top candidate to replace him as head coach for Minnesota.

I actually think the Timberwolves would be a better job.

I agree I've actually gone on record as saying it's now or never and he might retire early but if he stays this time this wil, be his last coaching stop. This is the moment. Exciting but terrifying.
I wouldn't say now or never, but I think him staying this season would mean he'd give it a few more years before making the jump for good. As long as the Bulls hire someone else this year, that job shouldn't open for 3-4 years and the Twolves are still a little far away from having success. Let's be real, those are the only 2 jobs Hoiberg would probably ever take.

Fred is Iowa State. Very typical in that this is the absolute worst timing for ISU MBB, but if he leaves I can't really feel anything other than tremendous gratitude for all he has done. ISU MBB will be fine long-term, albeit not as "perfect", and I will become a big Bulls fan. Far from a positive off season, but there are many attainable coaches out there that can have just as much success at ISU, even if they will be less fun to root for.

I would love it if he came back. I just don't think he would.

Especially if the next coach turns out to be a disaster. We'd be desperately wishing for Fred's return.

I actually tried to watch some of the playoffs last week and gave up after seeing that King James still fouls 15 times a game and gets called for like 3 while anyone who looks cross-eyed at him in the 4th quarter is whistled.

I was a NBA fan back when you had star packed rivals like the Celtics/Lakers battles and than the Bulls but this stuff now is weak sauce.

Yeah, the stars getting more calls didn't happen back in the Celtics/Lakers/Bulls days...ha ha. James had 528 FTAs this year. Jordan had ZERO full seasons in his entire career where he attempted that few. In '85 Moses Malone shot 904 FTs and only got called for 216 fouls. That's insanity. And back in the 80s people were basically committing assault without fouls being called.

I don't have any inside knowledge about Fred Hoiberg's career path, but what the hell, I'll publicly share my meaningless opinion on the subject with you anyways...

Five hours ago your source told you that he met with the team to tell them he was leaving last week and that was blatantly false. Fred might leave but I get real tired of people posing as insiders.

I just assume that insiders on the Internet probably aren't. It's a lot easier that way.

I'm starting to think it's almost a done deal and he's just waiting til the coach is gone. Cause what is the point in waiting, if you have made up your mind that your not going to take the gig, then why not just say that. That's why I'm thinking it's not good for Iowa State at this point

No, because 9 times out of 10, a random poster has no credibility, and it extremely hard to sift through all the ********. A lot of people on here have internet egos, and they need to act like they have sources in the know so they can look more important then they really are. Maybe you're that 1 in 10, but chances are that you're not. The fact that you are arguing with everyone makes me think you're digging for respect, and you're upset that you're not getting it.

9 times out of 10 is very charitable. Internet sources "with connections" are nowhere near that accurate.

I am going to remain skeptical of insider info ever since my former boss, who is very tight with JP, told me it was a done deal and Brian Kelly was going to be the next ISU fb coach when chiz was hired.
