Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

There are a ton of reasons the Minnesota job is better than the Bulls for Fred tho, he has been there before, he would have close personal friends in the front office, not to mention the expectations are minimal. I don't think either job is great, I just think T Wolves are a better fit for Fred and a more stable situation for anyone to come into.

1) Fred played for the Bulls for two years, he's been there before as well.

2) Fred and Gar Forman are so close that Forman bought Fred's old house in Chicago when he went to Minnesota.

Fred played for the Pacers his first 4 seasons then FOUR years with the Bulls followed by his final two seasons with the Timberwolves. I know because I watched every game.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Sounds like he likes all of Ames, Chicago, and Minneapolis. I have lived in ten places and if you can drive home, it works. You can make a nice home many places if you have your family.

And you are a robot and Fred is known as the Mayor of freaking Ames. But yeah same thing.

"I had to destroy ISU to prove my love for it."----Future Fred.

Ok ok that's funny..ha.

ok I guess I'll chime in. My only concern at this point is that we have heard nothing from Fred. I have a hard time believing he doesn't know what our fanbase is saying, or fretting about. And he knows WE know he's on a lot of short lists.

Not saying anything is worrying me more than the rumor mill.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

This. I laugh when people think the press is tough in Iowa. They are teddy bears compared to the how the writers savage the Timberwolves here in the Twin Cities. They even go out of their way to gore the sacred cows, The Wild and the Vikings.

And if he goes NBA he had better be ready for Twitter and talk radio stuff that will make the stuff about Matt Thomas seem like kids play. It will be millions of fans, not thousands like in Iowa.
Who said anything a about the press? If people can't understand the pressure of being the saviour of ISU sports and being that face fine. I give up. I don't necessarily agree it is why he would go but It could be what keeps him here and am sure It is tough And it is an added pressure.

Why should we hear from him, though?
He's recovering from heart surgery. It's a big moment in his daughter's life. We're asking him to comment on a job that still isn't open (even though that's a technicality). It's bad form professionally for him to comment on that position right now.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

This is spot on. It is possible to care "too much" about a job to where it is a detriment to health. This happens to small business owners sometimes. When they realize what is happening, they might decide it is better to work for someone else's company where it can be just a job and not an obsession.
exactly.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Do you realize how delusional this sounds? If Fred leaves it has nothing to do with that, it is just that he wanted to coach in the NBA.
Not really, the Bulls think health will be a major factor in his decision why wouldn't we? Surgeons have to form detachment from their patients in order to cope with loss. Otherwise the personal investment loss is too much. Why is it inconceivable to think Fred carrying the weight of cyclone nation on his shoulders and his personal connection here makes this job really hard on him? Maybe his wife sees it and wants him to have a job again not an obsession. It wasn't my notion but it is a possible factor.

Yeah I totally see that. The pressure of CyclONEnation is so much greater than that of the Chicago ****ing Bulls. If you have to tell yourself that to rationalize Fred leaving ISU, then so be it.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

So I want to get this straight. Fred loves Iowa State so much that the pain of losing has become unbearable. So, in order to stop this pain caused by his tremendous love for ISU, he is going to rip it's fans heart out by taking a job in the NBA. Got it.
If you really think that that's what is being said there is no point trying to explain further.

No he doesn't think that's whats being said, he's mocking anyone (as am I) that think Fred can't handle the stress of being ISU's coach.

I think he can, but who knows maybe his wife doesnt by many accounts she is a big factor here. This is dumb speculation though. One guy said his theory 3 guys didn't understand what he was trying to say and and 3 more (including me) tried to explain it. I think as I said that the extra stress of being the identity of a community can be really tough on a family but it also makes it really tough to leave.

You're right it is dumb speculation. I like to keep things simple though, so if Fred leaves I'll just assume that he wanted to coach in the NBA more than he wanted to coach at ISU.

I used to be really attracted to a girl but she made me crazy jealous so I killed her and threw her in the river

Doesn't really matter why in the end. In all likely hood it isn't one thing or another probably a lot of competing factors.
