It isn't iSu's fault that OSU overpaid Ford.

Doesn't Fred have a 10 year contract worth around 2.6m a year? His current year earnings may be average compared to others in the Big 12 (or compared to P5 teams in the NCAA tourney) but his overall contract seems very solid.

If CFH leaves this talk about my family is all here, her parents, my parents, want to coach my kids etc., really was just talk in my view. He said he wants to see a NCAA championship banner hanging from the rafters at Hilton well we will see I guess. As far as his dream job, seems pretty likely that the Bulls or the Timberwolves will have openings again down the road. JP took a chance on him with no coaching experience and if he leaves now, I would lose some, not all, respect for him. I know, I know it's a business but I'm a Cyclone fan and we have dreams too.

I assume Fred has his financial house in better order than most but to assume he is set for life is naive. Throw in that he is probably looking at taking care of his family for the foreseeable future due to his health and I would think that money does matter.

What we know about Fred is that he is smart and always thinking about the future. I don't know him personally but would bet he has his trusts all set up and his family will be taken care of. In the grand scheme of things he is set. Sure we'd all like more money but in reality he'll be just fine.

My dad ran a business for a man who had hundreds of millions of dollars but was still working. The owner told me once you are independently wealthy the goal is not to make more money to live but rather see how high you can get the numbers in your portfolio to go. It becomes more of a game than a job.

I am confident Fred is not working for money.

I really haven't been following this as closely as some. I know I've read on here that the NBA is Fred's eventual goal, but is that his "Dream" to coach any team in the NBA? Is it the Bulls specifically?

I'm just trying to imagine a scenario where the Bulls, right now, would really be anyone's "Dream Job" Rose is a big question Mark, the team, over all, is aging and the Front office has never really proved they are willing to do exactly what the coach needs to win a championship.

This is the same organization, at least ownership, that told Michael Jordan to hit the bricks, as opposed to paying him enough to stick around and retire as a Bull. I could have understood it if they had a solid group coming in to play for a championship, but they are still in the midst of a 17 year rebuilding process.

And for those talking about the stress of Fred coaching the Cyclones, you have no idea what it's like in Chicago. You win and you are the king, you lose, even just a few games here and there, the whole City turns on you and you are the worst coach on the planet. They do it to everyone though. Jay Cutler has gone from Savior to Satan in just a few years. The stress of the pro Market is a lot more than college. It just is.

Heck, look at the Thibs situation. Before game 6, everyone was saying what idiots the Bulls would be to get rid of Thibs. How he was the best thing to happen to the team since Jordan. Then they lose game 6 and whammo, everyone calling in saying he should be fired. I don't live in Iowa, so I don't know what the media was like after the UAB game, and I'm sure it was stressful for Fred, but any backlash he got for that game, is an every day occurrence in Chicago.

No matter what, Fred is always going to be able to Call Ames home. I think no matter what, most ISU fans would welcome him with open arms. Just ask Tim Floyd though, if he thinks he could call Chicago home, that is if anyone remembers who he is.

At what point was Fred not up front about the only thing to take him out of Ames was the right NBA opportunity?
The low buyout on the NBA gig should have been the first clue.

Look the teams in the NBA semi-finals use pretty much the same metrics as Fred does in determining the kind of team they want to build. They shoot a high percentage of 3's and want to get as many shots they can during the game. If I were him I would make the jump too. You have no way of knowing when opportunities will present themselves again, so if you choose not to jump at them..

You also sound like he has not paid back on the "chance" he was given, I would disagree and say Fred has paid that one back 10 times over.

IIRC, his contract is significantly backloaded. I think the man is worth more than what he's getting paid currently. It's sort of irrelevant if his contract has him well paid (relative to 2014 when it was signed) in 2020.

By then, the going rate for top 15 coaches may be double what we're paying him.

I think it's ridiculous that we aren't paying him more right now.
