Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Boy has it been all quiet on the Western front so far today. Thought there was a decent chance we'd be off to the races with different news items this morning by now. Maybe everyone is still sipping their morning coffee.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

I won't lose respect for Fred. I would be disappointed though. Iowa State gave him an opportunity to coach at a level that he could only dream about. I am sure that it was always a dream of Fred's to coach Iowa State to a National Championship. And Iowa State does have a potential NC team in place for next year.

So it comes down to which dream does Fred want? IMO, the Chicago Bulls job is Fool's Gold. An aging injured roster with talent, with the Ghosts of Champions past overshadowing you. The Ghosts of Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan can never be erased. A Championship with this team will never be remembered like the glory days with Jackson and Jordan. And failure can lead to the Coaching Graveyard that has been the destination for previous coaches......including a very good Iowa State Coach named Tim Floyd.

IMO, there are better places to eventually land than Chicago. Thibodeau has had a pretty good record at Chicago. Look where it got him......FIRED.

Why are the Chicago Bulls necessarily a coaching graveyard? After failing with the Bulls, Tim Floyd was given another opportunity with the Hornets. After failing with the Hornets, he was welcomed back into a P5 conference in college.

Plenty of P5 teams will be happy to take Fred if he wants to return to college- regardless of how he does with the Bulls.

You still have not posted a good reason why.. He has not lied or not been up front about anything has he?

But who cares if casey1973 loses some or all of his/her respect for Fred? Seriously, who cares? If he has a great reason or no reason it makes to difference to me.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Doesn't Fred have a 10 year contract worth around 2.6m a year? His current year earnings may be average compared to others in the Big 12 (or compared to P5 teams in the NCAA tourney) but his overall contract seems very solid.
Check the link. And yes it is a 10 year contract

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

What we know about Fred is that he is smart and always thinking about the future. I don't know him personally but would bet he has his trusts all set up and his family will be taken care of. In the grand scheme of things he is set. Sure we'd all like more money but in reality he'll be just fine.

My dad ran a business for a man who had hundreds of millions of dollars but was still working. The owner told me once you are independently wealthy the goal is not to make more money to live but rather see how high you can get the numbers in your portfolio to go. It becomes more of a game than a job.

I am confident Fred is not working for money.
And I worked for a man that was very wealthy and went through bankruptcy once, had to start from scratch, and became wealthy again. No one knows what Fred's financial situation is but Fred, his wife and his financial managers/accountants. People should never, ever assume they understand someones financial situation.

Like I said...I ASSuME Fred has his financial house in order but you never know. He has a lot of medical bills.

That's it! This whole thing is just a ploy to get around the $2 mil penalty if Fred goes to another college team! He just wants to coach his home town Huskers.

Nothing is happening until the playoffs are over, which I think works in our favor. Now if the Bulls decide they can live without that 9 million they owe Thibs and no compensation from his next club then it's off to the races.

Fred has great health insurance benefits. Count on it.

Not disagreeing, but why would they wait until the playoffs are over?

Yes but there are still expenses. It still doesn't change the fact that no one on this board has a clue about his financial situation. People ASSuME too much.
I think he is probaly fine but I would never make the mistake of saying he is set for life and doesn't need to make money

They don't have to, but if the teams and people with interest in this (Pelicans, Magic, Bulls)want to have the full table of options then they need to wait until the playoffs are over. The biggest question out there is probably "Will the Cavs job come open?" and there is possibly a lot of fallout that could come from a Cavs opening.

I was thinking it was more due to Chicago looking for trade partners. There's enough interest out there they might be able to get something for him.

The more I'm reading about the Bulls not being so anxious to let Thibs go without compensation, without knowing they have their preferred choice locked up, the reports of his having the backing of the star players... the more I think we're ok for this year and pretty much screwed for next.

Fred's surgery, and the roster we have coming back to me suggests 1 more run at ISU. We graduate (or otherwise lose to early draft entry - Monte) the bulk of our squad, the Bulls whittle 4.5 mil off their buyout of Thibs, they get one more chance at a playoff run with a cohesive and hopefully more healthy team, and can start fresh having many of their weighty contracts heading off the books.

Then there's also the wildcard of what may happen with Minnesota in 2016
