Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

I think the 'Fred has decided to stay at ISU' is the one option you can rule out for right now. If that decision had been made, we would have heard something.

Agree with you. And no decision 'to go', either. Posters who claimed "count on it, best source says he's staying" , while the others saying "already done deal" were both extremely unwavering , adamant, final-sounding, statements. Now....obviously, one of those outcomes will end up being right in the end, but entering this past weekend, neither statement was accurate at 'that time', from those connected.

i was certain not hearing about a press conference on Monday would be good for us but you all are right - if he was staying he'd have come out and say it. not looking good.

Well I wouldn't expect that to happen while Thibs is still the coach of the Bullz whether Fred is going there or not.

Yeah, I think that as cold as it is to leave ISU at all, he wouldn't leave the fanbase to wonder for no reason. I also think he has decided he will leave if offered the job. I think he knows what the general offer and power will be and I can't imagine he hasn't been able to make that decision.

I'm afraid you're right. Dammit. Doesn't seem like he's waiting for Jamie to fork out more money so why else would you not say you're coming back now.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

It is funny that so many people talk about the "pressure" Fred is under because of Ames, ISU, winning, etc. etc.

Feed eats pressure and craps rainbows, seriously I doubt from a health standpoint being in Ames and at ISU is any harder on his health than being in the NBA. Be realistic and think it through - I know for a FACT, first hand how competitive Fred is. We were classmates and I knew his mom well when I lived in Ames. That kind of competitiveness is very binary - on or off, there is very little gradient to it.

If he is coaching ISU or the Bulls or the freaking badminton team at the Iowa Games his self induced pressure is about the same and external factors don't move the needle for him.

All you have to do is see how clutch he was in his playing career to understand that.
Good rationale, makes sense and if true it will only play in our favor.

Well I wouldn't expect that to happen while Thibs is still the coach of the Bullz whether Fred is going there or not.

From the sounds of it if Hoiberg turns them down, we will see a "Thibs is our coach" statement (he could still get traded). If Thibs gets fired then you can almost bet that the Bulls got Hoiberg.

So we really want a statement from the Bulls, not Fred. Fred isn't going to publicly comment I'd guess.

The Bulls aren't going to fire Thibs and give him $9 mil unless 1) he steps down and takes the Pelicans job or 2) the Bulls get a commitment from Fred.

And...if the Bulls have a trade lined up for Thibs, that can't officially be announced until the finals are over, which is at least 3 weeks away.
