Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Agreed. His contract is set up for him to go to the NBA. Just a matter of when it happens

I don't understand why we did that with his contract. NBA teams are loaded. If they want a coach then make them pay for it. Hell it would help pay for the next coach.

Q
I think the frustration lies more with the fact that if we can't keep an ISU legend who by all accounts loves Ames and Iowa State, then who can we keep?
Any chance CFH doesn't like working for JP?

That's so weird that the Pelicans got permission to interview Alvin Gentry. They'll be waiting awhile since they have to wait til the Warriors are out of the playoffs.

I'm jabbing a couple of people that said we wouldn't know anything about the Bulls job til after the playoffs were over.

Sad thing is it could still take that long to get finished. Didn't Floyd go in July? Even if Fred commits the Bulls are going to try and shop Thibs for a trade that is unlikely to happen before hiring his replacement.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

We also were swinging for the fences on our recruits, and entering the arena's with the Kansas, Kentucky's and Dukes of the world. Plus I think pulling in transfers all the time can result in more negative recruiting than going to the NBA.

Fred knows a lot of people in the NBA, and he is good friends with Gar Forman, if it helps them to stay quiet in negotiating some deal with some other team then maybe he does it. Not saying its happening, but its plausible.

At the end of the day, even if he does not take this job, he will be mentioned for others in the coming years. For those concerned that negatively impacts recruiting maybe its better he just goes to the Bulls this year and that puts a stop to those concerns.

Bottom line this break is for the Bulls benefit and not ISU. Shades of MA departure where we lost and someone else gained.

If jp reaches the point where he knows for sure, but not public, how much can he do to find a replacement?

Jamie has been greasing the skids for this for a week now, trying to ease the pain. His comments have been very telling. He knows. Can't blame Fred, you only live twice

If you don't think our losses when MA left were not partially due to "this situation", as opposed to MA, you aren't looking hard enough. I think you can bank on Williams not being given a guarantee that Fred would be here, and the same with Diallo, as to reasons we truly lost those guys. ( although Diallo was far from a Sure thing, but I don't buy the Hoiberg could not see Diallo due to weather story....
