Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Oh please, Note to Pollard never ever hire someone with ISU ties ever again because the butt hurt if they ever choose to move on to a better opportunity is beyond belief.

Oh the hell with it, lets fire Pollard while we are at it. He hired Hoiberg knowing up front Fred wanted to coach in the NBA someday. Pollard clearly screwed up this hire too.

I think the frustration lies more with the fact that if we can't keep an ISU legend who by all accounts loves Ames and Iowa State, then who can we keep?

Not an attack, more a defense mechanism so i won't be so let down.

FWIW, i don't recall discussion of the nba being his dream when he was hired, it was all about isu being his dream. The nba talk started after his 2nd year.

Then Pollard should not have agreed to the small buyout to go to the NBA. Fred was up front all along.

Irrational frustration is a good term for it.

Have you only ever had one dream?

No, but I've only had one dream job and there wouldn't be thousands of people counting on me in the event I got that job either.

Why so much defense of Hoiberg?

Are you new here? Why would anyone defend the most iconic Cyclone of all time?

I think the question of why some feel the need to tear him down (as self-preservation) is more apt.

We need to hire an ISU legend who is just a notch above a mediocre coach so this will be his best job ever.

Problem solved.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Realize who we are talking about losing "The Mayor". He has more ties to isu and Ames then anyone else you could dream up. If he leaves after such a short stint and essentially using isu as a stepping stone I as a isu fan can be rightfully upset.

and others can rightfully defend the ISU legend against unfair personal attacks.

I don't think its irrational for fans to be frustrated that a coach that could potentially be the best coach in ISU history may be leaving in 5 short years.

what is the appropriate amount of time that Fred owed us?

Leaving a program in the best position of it's history is a funny way to "F over" someone.

It's in a great position for next year but it's in a pretty bad one for 2016. I don't think that matters but it's not like we are locked and loaded for two years.

So, we're all freaking out because some dude with zero cred tweeted that Hoiberg would leave if offered?

I don't think it's irrational to be frustrated that perhaps the best coach in our history and a native of Ames, Iowa is likely leaving. I think irrational hate may be the term you're looking for there. Everyone should be frustrated by this. Hell, I doubt Hoibergs a very big fan of this decision he has to make.

If he never had talks of going the NBA I would buy this, but that is not was discussed when they hired him, for those who thought he would give up that talk coming back to Ames, Iowa were fooling themselves.

I get it people feel jilted, but that is only because they refused to accept the fact this was going to be a short term relationship at best. Some had hoped that he would stick around til the twins graduated. It probably is not gonna work out that way.

I'm not tearing anybody down, but I'm not going to say..."oh hey it's ok, thanks for getting us to the sweet 16 Fred, losing to UAB and then leaving after 5 years when we've got a roster ready for a title run"

It's funny that in a message board anyone who hasn't agreed with you on every point is a complete idiot in your book.

Especially when you look at the roster after this season... woof.

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

I said a month ago I thought all signs pointed to him leaving for Bulls this year, and got lambasted by members swearing there is NO WAY he would leave this year...

I can't blame him if he leaves, but the part that I don't like is Fred obviously knows this is hurting ISU ( transfers, etc) and I would accept it more if he would have told the Bulls "do it immediately and don't let it string out to the point where it effects the program or I am not coming".. Doesn't see to be the case...

Why anyone would want to coach in the NBA is beyond me. I feel bad for coaches, I really do, handling the preferential treatment of star players from league/owners, balancing ego's of other players, star players looking at coaches with disdain, etc. I would have better luck teaching/motivating this bulldog how to play defense in the NBA than most players.

I'd rather go to work and deal with a few egomanical superstars than spend all my spare time kissing some teenagers *** so he might come play ball for me.

Completely agree. Why so much defense of Hoiberg? It's not like he's been here for 20 years accomplished everything and is now moving on (IE Pitino leaving Kentucky for Boston or hell even Brad Stevens leaving Butler for Boston...2 title appearances).

Hoiberg's short stint here, zero conference titles and not getting past the sweet 16 indicate that this was a stepping stone the entire time. We are completely F'd beyond 2015/16 unless we hit the jackpot with some mid major or TJ promotion. Another big name is not coming to Ames, get that out of your head.

Going into a year in the top five in the country, I'm struggling to imagine a better situation he could possibly leave us in.
