Re: Hoiberg to Accept Bulls Job, If Offered

How does this happen with a respected NBC affiliate? WHO is 40 miles from Ames and then are relying on a guy that lives in LA that no one has ever heard of??

Wow.

Fred is recuperating and laughing at all of the false, rampant speculation. Jamie is creating suspense and bringing attention to the Iowa State athletic program.

For the record.... (my record at least).... I was at the Class 3A girls high school district track meet in Gilbert the other night. Paige ran several races. I sat in the bleachers and looked as far as I could turn my head from side to side and did not see Fred there watching the races. I used my X-ray vision to try and look into the "press boxes" at the top of the stands, but they must have lead lining those darn rooms because I couldn't see inside. One time when I stood up, I also turned and looked vigorously around the crowd and I can verify with that exhaustive search I did that Fred was not at that meet. Therefore, the ONLY conclusion that can be reached from this is he must have been on the phone with someone in Chicago (or there in person) to have missed his senior daughters last track meet before state.

Oh and for the record, his daughter ran very well in several events.... but she got beat in the 400 meter hurdles by a young lady from the town in my namesake tag. Probably because she was crying on the inside about having to move to Kansas in the near future.

(edit to add that Wyatt Rhoads also lost to a boy from Algona. My town was hard on the coaches kids last week!)

…and meanwhile rival coaches are locked and loaded with plenty of ammo to use in recruiting against ISU as long as Hoiberg is coach and has a contract with an “NBA out” clause.

Soooo….who’s laughing?

Just throwing this out here and it is most likely not related but when Otz's name was thrown out there for an ast coach, Georges mom was not too fond of the idea. Maybe Georges knew something we didn't and his mom was trying to give us a warning. I doubt it but who knows. I heard there was other users saying that Niang has known for a while.

I would go and listen to the Marty and Miller podcast with Dave Kaplan yesterday. Does a pretty good job of explaining things from the Bulls angle and what they are facing with Thibs.

I am trying to stay out of the fray here. But a couple items that make some sense to me.

If Fred has made the decision to go to the Bulls, I would guess he has communicated that to JP by now. For all intents and purposes we know Fred to be a stand up guy. No way he is going to blindside JP with that kind of news. So ISU isn't being held hostage, they are able to plan for this in advance and have things ready to go. Whether that is hiring a different coach or promoting Otz who knows, but JP isn't setting around with his hand up his but. If we learned anything from the realignment stuff it is that JP works very good in the shadows, he is also very good at slight of hand.

But here is to hoping we can all rest easy soon, a new extension is signed by Fred, and the NBA floats on by.

I don't think Fred is the team player everyone thinks he is. Team players don't leverage your school for three consecutive years for big raises. Team players don't flirt with Minnesota. Team players don't hurt their recruiting abilities by not communicating to potential recruits. Team players don't stop communication with their bosses and leave everyone wondering what the hell is going on for several weeks.

I love Fred and hope he decides to stay for a long time. But he's in this for himself first and ISU a distant second. I think that much is obvious now. Not that there is anything wrong with that because every other coach does the same thing. But let's not pretend Fred will protect/think about ISU's best interests before his own.

I have, at various times in my life, spoken to actual human beings.
None are connected to Fred Hoiberg, at least to my knowledge.

Because of this, I believe that he will either stay or go, but don't have any information as to which it could be.

Link? Doesn't hold up if you don't cite where you didn't get any information.

Otherwise it's just an opinion.

What?! I was told he is doing all this because he loves ISU TOO much.

I'm not sure if aauummm is being sarcastic but if this is really a ploy by ISU/Hoiberg (which it isn't) to bring attention to ISU, we are severely hurting our recruitment by doing this. I have abstained from posting in this thread until now. Not like it hasn't already been said but if Hoiberg was staying, he would have put a release by now saying so to shut these rumors down and save our recruitment. The fact that there has been nothing said by Hoiberg, JW and JP showing concern, and the rumors a picking up more and more each day.. I'd say he's gone. I would like to be an optimist but it is easier to expect the worst and hope for the best. ISU fans have gotten really good at this over the years.

Not sure how some of you can be in as much denial as you are. Just don't see how Fred keeps quiet this long if he wasn't going to take the Bulls job. It makes no sense, it kills recruiting and definitely makes things tough on the team. I've gone from thinking he would stay to just waiting for the announcement he is leaving to accept the job.

Very interesting things going on for sure. Likely fred has been offered and accepted Bulls gig..however...the Bulls can't just let thibs go for $10 mil and nothing. They are trying to leverage draft picks with wither NO or Orlando. NO could lielly hire Gentry and soon leaving only Orlando for thibs to land. No way Orlando is giving Bulls their lottery pick. If Bulls and Orlando can't work out deal it is highly likely Thibs stays. This is prob why it's been silent, fred can't make a move until Bulls have their deal.

side note...if JP hires TJ as HC without putting out serious feelers to other coaches then it will be the end of JP at Isu.

If there's multiple interested parties, then sure.

Kind of like when there's a bidding war for a house for sale.

But Thibs has to sign off, and according to Chicago media he is not going to play nice with the Bulls front office. Thibs really holds all the cards here.
