I don't get the hate on Leath. Pollard was set to hire his undeserving friend with no search process. Leath told him to do a search. Pollard did a search which included Otz, and it turned out that Otz wasn't the best choice available.

I think it's great the President told the AD to do his job and not half *** it.

I hit "like" on this by mistake, I do not agree with the post above. If people would actually listen to all the interviews on how the process was done, they would know JP was talking to people and getting his ducks in a row long before Fred left for sure. I personally do not understand the hate on JP.

Pretty sure you can hit the like button again to unlike it.

According to Rivals, he's never signed anyone with more than 3 stars. Don't know how accurate this is.

I'm guessing not every recruit gets the right recruiter matched up to their name on Rivals.

According to this, he played an important role in recruiting a great class to Marquette: "Joining forces with Buzz Williams in May of 2012, Coach Chew is exceedingly proud of the accolades received by the 2012-2013 BIG EAST Conference Champions at Marquette and worked diligently to recruit the sixth nationally ranked class in 2013." http://www.hokiesports.com/staff/chew_isaac.html

I looked up that 2013 Marquette class. Recognize a couple names on this list? https://rivals.yahoo.com/marquette/basketball/recruiting/commitments/2013
Very interesting possible connection to our current team!

Marquette and Indian Hills are pretty good schools to coach at in regards to connections for recruiting to ISU.

He can recruit but the thing I'm really excited about is, if this guy coached on Buzz Williams's staff, he eats, sleeps, breathes defense. B-dub's squads are as tough as they come. I always thought it was weird that recruiting battles came down to M'quette and ISU, two coaches could no be more different than Fred and Buzz. Not just personality but coaching style, strategy etc. It just always seemed strange a recruit could have that much interest in two totally opposite programs.

These articles give me the impression that Chew had at least some contact with McKay and Burton while he was at Marquette. I think he may have even been there for all of Burton's freshman season. Hopefully they had a good relationship with no bridges burned from either side.

So JP just went to ATL to meet with the search firm 2 weeks before Fred even left because? He needed to set up logistics to drive to Ankeny to sit down and have TJ sign the contract?

Not really. Chizik maybe..as he was a young up and coming DC from Texas. CPR wasn't so much. He was considered a good hire at the time because he was one of the few who actually wanted to be at IsU and that is rare for fball.

on the one hand I'd like to almost give CPR a couple more years as along as his current staff remains in tact. We have just gotten to the point of having respectable facilities and now a fairly new stadium and I'd like to see how this staff can recruit to that for Two more years. I do think this is one of if not his best staff since he's been here. One thing I'll say about CPR and his team's is that we are far more competitive than we've ever been even though it doesn't show in the win/loss column. Outside a few complete blow outs, we've been pretty close in a lot of games. Whereas under Dmac we would get absolutely destroyed a lot.

People complaining about CPR apparently are young or have short term memories because this statement is very true.

Interesting. Because the reports of it being Otz were before any interviews happened.

Those two plus Otz will be fantastic. If Hines is throwing those two names out there the rest should be just a formality and will probable be announced Monday or Tuesday

It would appear to be a very promising MW recruiting experienced staff and get high marks from most on Prohm's first week. TJ Wisconsin, New England, and Canada focus on, Chew Wisconsin, Mizzou, and the Mason-Dixon line States, and Small as Prohm's right hand man to implement his system and I assume recruit the South.

I am slightly curious if it ends up being an either TJ or Chew though due to cost, Assoc. HC title and the overlap of past recruiting area. I assume the Chew also has relationships with McKay, Burton, and Nosowiak (plus the next potential Marquette transfers to ease the coaching transition. Probably reading a little to much into it.

There are over 300 State employees that made over $300k and the vast majority teach at the U of I.
