My concern comes from those in the know during the interview process who had seen the list Prohm submitted of assistants he planned on bringing in and they have stated that it was the worst list of those interviewing. Sounds like Small is going to be the most impressive of those on staff and this is just a buddy who hasn't spend any time above the mid major level.

You have access to that information?? Well then....

I don't understand this logic. I've seen several people make these kind of comments. What difference does it make whether we are trying to hire an assistant coach in March, April, May, or June? Why would it be any harder to hire a coach today than it was in April?

Agreed. People kept saying this re head coaching search as well. It's not December. Odd that people think a coach would jump at a new, better or higher paying job in April but not June.

There basically is no staff to have a good/bad feeling about yet. Not sure why you wouldn't wait to see who's hired. Maybe that's just me.

Agree. I'm not taking sides,... nor have any idea who wants to stay/go, or isn't/ is asked. But wouldn't it be nice to give our new coach some courtesy with hires and welcome whomever with open arms to cyclonenation?

I know I will. They are assistant coaches. How would I know if they are any good? I'm just going to assume that coach hires good people until they prove that they aren't.

Do you seriously think Hines tweeted that and Rothstein tweeted that Chew was staying put and that somehow we never made a run at the guy?

I agree we took a run a Chew, but my concern is why we couldn't get him out of a mediocre job like Va tech. Why am I the only one concerned about Chew not wanting to work with Prohm?

Virginia Tech may be a mediocre job now, but they've obviously laid out the money to become relevant by hiring Buzz Williams, and Chew was making huge money for an assistant. On top of that, neither has been there too long, so it's harder to pull him away. We'll get a good one if we're willing to spend money similar to what Chew is making there.

He's making $100k more than any of our assistants were last season.

We aren't paying our head coach crap, so we should have the money to pay for a top assistant. I think Small is fine, but his can't be the best resume on staff. No power 5 experience at all.

Or maybe he is just happy where he is at. Maybe his current job is just "comfortable", and he doesn't feel like shaking things up again. Or maybe he loves living in the Blacksburg area. There's no reason to be concerned, in my opinion. Hopefully we'll land another good assistant somewhere else.

I hope it's that, because we should be throwing some money at these assistants.

Who the hell is Chew?!

He is former VT QB Marcus Vick in disguise. I am convinced that this is his way to remain on the VT campus.

Or you could assume it's a pattern and we don't tend to pay super competitively for head coaches or assistants.
