What? He doesn't really have an option. He just signed his contract, he wants to be here. The one with a choice is Prohm. It's his choice for Otz to be here or not. There is literally zero reason to give him a raise right now. Zero.

Wait, you know he can leave, right? He can go coach another team.

If we want to keep him, there certainly is plenty of logic in offering a raise if that's what it takes.

Now, if Prohm doesn't want him that much, don't offer it. Maybe he would like to keep Otz but only at his current contract, who knows.

But it isn't like TJ has no leverage here if we are assuming we want him back.

If TJ is making $240k, do you seriously think you can get an equal or better recruiter for less than say $275k? Maybe, maybe not. Chew was making $275k, Fuller was making $325k.

Guys that can recruit can command a high salary. Plus it would be silly to bicker over $25-40K with a guy who you leaning towards hiring for the HC position 3 weeks ago.

Because recruiting is not a one year game?
Because nothing tests the "wants to be here" more than going cheap?

Don't be stupid, TJ has plenty of leverage. It is late in the game and we will not get anyone better. He also knows we need him to get guys to sign with ISU in upcoming years, but that he will have plenty of chances to leave prior to them signing. It would be a blow to keep him on staff on bad terms just to see him leave ASAP.

It would be shortsighted to use our leverage for this current year. If you want TJ on staff you don't fret over what is a fairly minimal increase.

Well put. The point I was trying to make. TJ has a good hand if he's playing poker.

Here nor there
Tj is under contract, no raise necessary. Just don't fire him and the job is still his.
Otherwise known as the shortsighted plan. Hopefully Prohm is thinking more than one year out. Playing chicken with TJ in June over such a small amount is idiotic.

A happy, committed TJ is the only positive outcome- which imo means raise and two-year contract. If Prohm thinks TJ is gone after this one year contract is up, we should cut ties now. TJ knows this. A good replacement for TJ will then cost at least twice as much.

A raise does not guarantee anything, but not giving one has a strong chance of ******* us.

I rarely agree with this guy, but he is right.

I'm glad you bozos aren't the ones making this choice.

You have no comprehension of leverage.

Why do you care so much about what has to be less than 100k anyway? It is inconsequential to the AD who is saving $1 million per year on the HC salary.

If ISU doesn't care about TJ and can stand to lose him, sure, lowball him.

It's just like any normal salary negotiation.

If you sign up for a job and when you get there the company car they promised isn't there, you have every right to go find another job and if they want you they will increase their offer to keep you. If they don't want you that much they won't.

It's not complicated. And I think it's pretty obvious that if Chew isn't coming, TJ is the best assistant out there that has connections to ISU and/or Prohm.

I don't know about this Daniyal Robinson business. That's a "playing it safe" hire if he goes that route. Nothing about that hire will excite many fans imo.
