There's a big difference between working to get a scoop and having a "source" drop info in your lap.

That said, who do you think has better sources -- a national writer, or the likes of Randy, Travis, and Bobby?

But if Rothstein tweets it, he must be certain enough to post it. How can he be sure BEFORE anyone else?

The difference is when Rothstein hears it, he puts it out immediately.

When Hines, et al hear stuff they wait until they have the green light to put it out, because they have to protect their sources and maintain their relationships for the long term.

That's just my speculative opinion of course.

That would be true if the sources in question were named publicly, and not just "sources".

The real question is why does this bother you? If you have the information, would you rather release it to the Ames Tribune where only locals pick it up or CBS Sports where it can actually gain (some) national attention.

I don't think so.

Hines' job is specifically with ISU. If he leaks something earlier than the source wants he's effed forever.

Rothstein has a whole country to get scoops from and doesn't rely on those coaches or sources for stories 24/7 or have to worry about seeing them every day in season or ******* them off.

My point is that I think Hines and those guys get a lot of their info from legit AD sources in advance and then given a green light to report it (or when it's broken other places).

Rothstein gets his info from our old staff.

If I was coach, I'd wanna stay on the good side of the local media by giving them a scoop or two. No one else is going to write more about me.

They were definitely on Daniyal Robinson but I hadn't heard anyone say a thing about TJ.

Yeah I agree. Rothstein didn't break Robinson but I don't really get CW calling out Rothstein for breaking the news about Otz. Maybe the local guys like CW or Hines knew about Otz but Rothstein beat them to the punch with the report

Williams sounds pretty bitter. If the local media had been "all over it", why did we not hear anything? That's a pathetic response from CW.

Yeah my only guess is he was specifically referring to Robinson.

I am a little surprised as well as CW seems to be pretty well connected to TJ.

It's comical to watch some of the local guys get buddy-buddy with the MBB managers before games to try to get info.
