Unfortunately where there is smoke there is fire. Seems to be an almost identical story as the Cael one.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Was when Leath got involved inthe coaching search this Summer an indication of his opinion of Pollard?

Yes, I wrote a couple really long exposes of that at the time. It's not a secret that JP leans heavily on his accounting background, but just how far his bean counting goes is rarely talked about except for during times of change like this.

I think these things may have bothered the Fred loyalists within the program more than Fred himself.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

A lot of this sounds pretty disheartening, but there are always two sides to every story. My guess is there is so much more even beyond what the media and the sources think they know.

I'm not saying Jamie has done everything perfect. He's certainly had some issues keeping coaches happy. That being said, no coach is perfect either.

From what we could tell, it seemed Fred liked Jamie overall. I mean what was the first thing he said after winning the Big 12 tournament. "That one was for you, Jamie."

I'm very surprised Hines worked on this and published it. Was it just for page clicks? Just to tick off fans? (look at the size of this thread in under an hour). Makes you wonder if he's going to lose some sources over it.

I don't for one second believe there was anything ISU could do to keep Fred. He's an NBA guy and always has been.

Was their even a discussion on matching the bulls contract? How could you not pay that man what he deserves. The bball program deserves the best treatment and the athletic department should play favorites. This is what happens when your AD is a track guy

I'm guessing the truth is in the middle somewhere. Pretty much like it always is.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Is there some big pile of cash hidden somehwere that I don't know about that Pollard could be using to develop these sustained coaching pedgrees? It certainly would be nice, but where does the money come from?

Actually yes, as was reported at the time, donors have been more than willing to pay big to keep big time coaches (Cael and Fred) up to the tune of 5mil for Fred but we're denied directly by JP.

JP is far more worried about setting a precedent than in immediate and sustainable success.

Lol at the 'favorite' on Twitter like that means something

It is dumb but do you think Fred would favorite something from someone that according to Hines he couldn't stand?

Maybe, maybe not.

(1) Ex-coaches with major riffs with the athletic department don't come back to school the next year for football games.

Good point...

It would be really interesting for a reporter to ask Hoiberg to comment on the article. Big scoop for someone at the ISU Daily...

Well one thing sure is clear: A lot of people on this message board are really good at group think and knee-jerk reactions. Football team is 1-2? Obviously they'll win no more games! Fire the coach!

Our basketball team had to check out of a hotel by 11 a.m. to save money? Fire the AD!

Some poster says we're good at group think and knee-jerk reactions? Ban the moron!

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

My exact thoughts. Not checking out of a hotel so kids can hang out in their room seems like a waste of money and impractical. That part of the article was really worded to generate an emotional response. I love Hines, but this article feels like he had a bit of an axe to grind.

I'm not defending Pollard because I really don't know the guy. He may be extremely tight and cheap when it comes to a lot of things. However, I also can't just overlook the money he has helped bring into the university and what has been done with it to improve ISU.

If all of the things are true, hopefully this article may be the thing needed to put him in check moving forward.
Iowa State was given money to reimburse the trip. It probably didn't cover everything but Iowa State won the damn thing. With the added publicity of their success I think a couple rooms could be covered to make your student-athletes and ICONIC head coach more comfortable.

Hoiberg won't comment for the same reasons he kept all this under his hat while he was here. He doesn't want to blow up the University.

I believe Hines 100%
Agree. This is not some sensationalistic website or blogger. It's a real newspaper with standards and credibility to maintain. I've always thought Pollard was great at challenging the status quo. But I hate the way he puts himself as the face of the program. I also think he spews stuff out that is borderline propaganda.

So why does this article get published now? Is there some between the lines, writing on the wall that JP might be gone with CPR at the end of FB season?

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Hoiberg planted all this to get JP fired and then get himself hired as AD. Thus screwing over the Bulls.

Any other conspiracies you all need me to figure out?

Exactly. Fred loves ISU, regardless of the AD and will do what he can to help the school, including being a standup guy and not airing dirty laundry.

Maybe this is your first year following college football. Otherwise you'd know the fire the coach reactions are not based on this year's record
