So glad the Twins gave themselves the best chance to win in September by sending Berrios home and sending Pelfrey out there every 5 days.....

Wow. A must win game. Must win. Must Win Mike.

Look on the bright side.

Remaining pitches in a Twins uniform for Mike Pelfrey: 0

(I say this knowing full well if the Twins somehow pull a rabbit out of their hat and make the playoffs, the Twins will install him as combo #1 starter/closer for the postseason just to troll us all.)

Chance is down to 3.7% of making the playoffs. I'd say the horrible road trip last month, the Perkins bomb, and the little-league skills shown last night did them in.

Since September 13, the wildcard leader has gone 7-9.

Twins only managed 8-8.

After all the letdowns earlier, they still had a golden opportunity over the last two weeks.

Anyway, playoffs start tonight for the Twins. 1.5 back with 4 to play.

One loss and it's over. Winning out may not even be enough, but we'll see.

Duffey, Santana for the first of these four is about as ideal a set up as they can get.

Technically, I don't think they'll be eliminated tonight even if they lose and everyone else wins. But yes, it certainly makes an already difficult climb even steeper.

Yeah, they won't be mathematically eliminated, but down 2 with 3 to play and two teams to pass pretty much does it.

This is one of those scenarios where if you travel back in time and tell me at the start of the season the Twins wouldn't be officially eliminated until October 2nd at the earliest, I would have taken it no questions asked. Unqualified success.

But once you know how the post-All Star Break played out, and particularly the final 2 1/2 weeks of the season went, there is an inevitable feeling of disappointment creeps in.

It's a success, no doubt. Might need a week to cool down though if/when the ax finally drops on the playoff prospects.

First time in a while the offseason is going to feel really long!
