For me, it's tough to beat a Sam Adams Boston Lager. I do like mixing it up when I go to the HyVee liquor. Left Hand Sawtooth Ale is pretty good, as is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Of course Dos Equis with a lime is a good summertime beer...reminds me of spring break back in the day.

I must recommend this:

Delirium Tremens - Brouwerij Huyghe - Beer Advocate

But good luck finding it.

I know the Happy Gnome bar in St. Paul, MN has in on tap. One of the best beers I've ever had. It also has won "Best Beer in the World" at various contests.

Brewers Website:

Bien Venu sur le site de la brasserie Huyghe

Oh, and, YES, it is 9.0 ABV

I am not sure if you are in Ames, but I am pretty sure you can get this at Cyclone Liquor by the Lincoln Center Hy Vee

With your mom
Amstel Light or Boulevard.

I've got 12 fermenting days left on a homebrew wine that I am anxious to try. There is a chance I can go blind but what the heck, you only live once.

Depends on how much you want to spend, and how much you want to drink. It also depends on what you can get at the liquor store. My favorites are seldom available in Iowa, unfortunately.

I avoid pretty much everything from every American Macrobrewery, save for Michelob and sometimes Sam Adams, if I actually want to enjoy beer. If I'm just drinking to drink (ala camping etc), you can't go wrong with Natty Light. It's cheap and most American Lagers taste pretty much the same.

The problem with Sam Adams is that while their beers are good, they aren't great, and if you're going to spend Microbrew money on beer, you might as well get a good, local Microbrew.

At any rate, Bell's Oberon Ale is a nice, smooth drinking wheat ale you should be able to find around. I guess I'll recommend that.

The only times I've had it was at the Happy Gnome. It is good to know that Cyclone has it. I'm in Clive but I get to Ames often enough. I've looked at some stores but not too hard.

It is a very good beer. But I can't see drinking more than 1 or 2 before it becomes overwhelming. Quality over quantity, right?

I have to agree with Boulevard Wheat. I'm a big fan of New Belgium's Sunshine Wheat. It hasn't come to Iowa yet, but will. I have a nice stockpile in my basement. To slow the consumption and conserve the supply, I mix in a few 6ers of Boulevard here and there.

Another very good beer is Dancing Man Wheat by New Glarus. New Glarus does limited distribution so may have to be in Wisconsin to get it. It is a summer seasonal. They'll start brewing it July.

You can't really go wrong with any New Glarus product.

What is with all the hate for Miller? Sure it is not great, but I don't think it is much worse than most of the other pressure brewed rice based beers. It is certainly not the worst cheap beer I ever drank. Rhinelander, now that was nasty. Drury's was undrinkable ice cold.

Is it just me, or are the New Belgium beers we get in Iowa not as good as the stuff in Colorado? I just got back from the New Belgium Brewery and, while beer is almost always best fresh from the brewery, there's no comparison between Mothership there and what we get here. Also, Sunshine is WAY better than Mothership, IMO. Best beer of theirs by FAR, IMO, is La Folie, but that's sort of a "specialty" beer, and most people would probably spit it back out if they tried it.

New Glarus is, IMO, a bit overrated. I've had most of their beers, and I don't think I was overly impressed, though they are good. That being said, I haven't tried Dancing Man. I don't think I've seen any of their beers in Iowa, except maybe at Dirty John's in Iowa City.

Not sure what anyone else thinks about it, other than I know BrianHos probably doesn't like it cause you can still see through the glass once poured. But Beach Bum, the Budweiser seasonal brew isnt bad.

We first had it when we toured the plant last summer in ST Louie, and it was su-poib. It's worth picking up a six pack to try at least.

Never had it. And I do drink beer you can see through.

Go with a Boulevard Wheat or a Shiner Hefeweizen. Can't go wrong with a Landshark Lager.

Since it is a little cool out tonight, what about a Black and Tan to warm the soul?

Z

Love Boulevard, hate shiner hefe, but I love shiner bock.

I am really digging samuel adams summer ale right now.

4VR4cy and I are also in love with Boulevard Wheat and kinda Goose Island 312. I am getting to the point i get really tired of traditional light beers.

Maybe some Sopparo tall boys anyone?!? Still a lighter beer, but its good.

After a long week for cyclone fans, Its Friday. Work is over and it is time to throw a couple back. I am going to buy a few 6 packs tonight, and wanted to see who could give me the best recommendation. Straying away from my normals which happen to recently be, Newcastle, Guiness Extra Stout, Red Stripe, and leinenkugel creamy dark and wheat.

A few 6 packs? Well if you're going to limit yourself, you may as well get Fat Tire or it's darker sister. :wideeyed:

Just picked up some gumball head wheat, little kings cream ale, a sixer of schlitz bar bottles and some belgian wheat that i've never heard of. Oh and bud select was on sale for $12.99 a case. I love traveling to Chicago for business, the beer is so cheap. I brought back some polish pilsner called ok which was very good.
