Fleck does a good job of self promotion, but he's going to need to win MAC games this year to prove he should be in the conversation.

If ISU is looking for a new HC, I would hope they go after a guy with some HCing experience. The current Memphis coach makes sense. I would also like us to look at guys like Greg Schiano, Jim Tressel or Jim Leavitt. I think Maryland fired Edsill to get in first with Schiano. I realize Tressel and Leavitt have some baggage, but that's Jamie job to figure what the back story is.

I agree that we should go after someone that has been a head coach. Preferably one that has a history of having a creative offensive mind.

For that reason, I think the Memphis head coach would top my list right now, until someone can give me a better name that is out there? I would like Frost, but I think he'll be the next Nebraska coach whenever they decide to let Riley go. So I'll pass on that.

Never really bought into the Frost hype. That Oregon offense has been passed down from coach to coach and the athletes come to them. Don't really feel like he has the experience needed to be Iowa State's coach.

If I could pick one semi-realistic candidate at this point I would go for Justin Fuente from Memphis.

With Fuente at the helm it would be a seamless transition on defense, that's for sure.

Give me a HC that can recruit and build a staff. And doesn't meddle in the coordinators game plan. If you don't like the game plan your coordinator put together, why did you choose him as a coordinator?

Let's see: need to build a football program so let's hire a guy who will be 65 years old in opening day next year. There's an idea.

Oh, it's such a horrible idea huh? Lou Holtz and Bill Snyder types couldn't coach in this stage of their lives right? You get a guy like Brown, you have access to great coordinators and recruiters to hit Big 12 areas again. Something ISU desperately needs. Wouldn't care if he would be here for only 3-5 years...we would have someone to pass the torch to in this case. The guy would at least get us to 6-6 right away too unlike the crappy coaches we have assembled now.

we have the worst coach in division 1 football right now. ISU needs someone that has been a head coach before. Can't go the assistant route again.

If anyone has watched Western Kentucky this year I think head coach Jeff Brohm would be the way to go. They have crushed everyone except for Indiana, who they had on the ropes and lost by 3. I think ISU could get him.

My new Top 5 that I think are realistic.

1. Bo Pelini (Youngstown State HC. Knows how to win in the Big 12, able to recruit. He and Pollard both have explosive personalities which, if Leath is involved, would hurt Pelini's chances)

2. Calvin Magee (Arizona OC. Players love him. Brings an explosive offense in a conference that isn't known for offense. At 52, if he wants to become a HC, nows the time.)

3. Justin Feunte (Memphis HC. Young. Players love him. Knows how to win.)

4. Doug Meachum (TCU OC. Honestly unsure how he would actually fit in with the culture here, but he knows how to score, and scoring is good.)

5. Matt Campbell (Young. Proven winner. Most successful Toledo coaches fair well after Toledo. Most.)

If we hire Bo Pelini, I'll become a Hawkeye fan.

Ok, maybe not a Hawkeye fan, but I'll find some other school to be a fan of. I'm no fan of Bo Pelini, and would not be able to get myself to be one.

I don't like him either. But there are a few reasons why I would want him.

1. If he wants to become a big time coach again, he has to start from scratch. No mediocre-to-great P5 school is going to take a chance on him. He's going to have to take over a **** program and turn it around, or move on to a new "elite" team from a bad conference and prove he can keep winning there.

He wouldn't be here long. He'd have his time to prove he can win or not, and then he's done.

2. Knows how to recruit. Look at some of the talent he had come out of Nebraska.

3. Knows how to win. Which is most important, now.

Really his only issue is he typically doesn't have those amazing offenses that you see in the Big 12 but if he could get the right people he'd be fine.

Looks good from that read - I also like the coach at Utah but know nothing about him.
Your guy is just 40 and I like that though.
