Can Tom Herman be named head coach already? Jeez, GTFO of Ames Coach...

its cute how delusional our fans are. Herman isn't coming here. He's got s good thing going and he'll wait until Texas or an Oklahoma job opens up.

we will be lucky to get a low major head coach. Most likely we are looking at the equivalent of the genius who will lead Kansas to a 0-12 record.

I'm pretty sure a lot of coaches think rhat the problem is less "Rhoads" and more "Iowa state".

This is NOT what we see consistently out of Richardson. The poster was correct, most of the time he over throws receivers to where they can't even make a play on it.

Kinda weird that he has a completion percentage well above 50% then, if most of the time they can't even make a play on it.

Please tell me how its ISU? I get so sick of this line of thought.

Story Co.
Sam either throws behind the reciever or throws it a mile over their head or at their ankles , he can't throw to a reciever on the run, wake up Paul

Have you really not figured out that CPR has/is/always will be the problem? He will **** Lanning and any other future QBs up if given the chance to hang around. Inconsistent QB play and overall offensive production have been major issues throughout his tenure. Who's the common denominator here?

First, I would like to hear the quote in context.

Second, at the time, I thought Lanning made a bad throw and Lazard bailed him out. And that I wished we took more shots like it anyway.

Third, why send Lanning out to talk to the press and then say this? Maybe it is a clever ploy before rolling out Lanning to out-Baylor Baylor next week!

i am not saying if it is or isn't. But i am saying I think that's the perception. Why would a coach take the Iowa state job when they could take the Illinois job?

That's the context. I watched the presser. He said it shouldn't have been thrown and it was all Lazard on that play.

I just rewatched a clip of this play... While Lazard was not "open", it was a fantastic throw to a spot where only Lazard was going to make a play on that ball.

Like everyone else has already said... This is a stupid comment from Rhoads, and he is just covering his *** since Lanning never played after that, which was even more stupid.

Yeah, watching the highlights on Cyclones.TV there were no other options on that play that we could see.

1. We started out trips right with Lazard by himself on the left. That's usually done to get man coverage on the single receiver.

2. Ryen, in the slot, goes in motion to the left. His defender moves into a SS/Nickel position, and just at the snap the FS comes down to account for Ryen. Between the TE (he was off the line on the left side, but not sure who it was) and Ryen, the FS and LB have them accounted for.

3. At the snap, Lazard takes off downfield and the CB follows him in man coverage. Ryen continues his motion into the left flat and the TE stays in to block. The LB stays home and the FS mirrors Ryen until he sees Lanning load up to throw deep, at which point he bugs out. Meanwhile, Richardson as the right inside receiver backpedals for a screen, and Bundrage (on the outside) runs some kind of corner route.

4. Lanning throws a good ball and Lazard out-physicals the CB, game-set-match.

5. Just as Lazard is making the catch, you can see an Bundrage and a TCU DB come up from the bottom of the screen at the same time. You couldn't see the route, but it looks like TCU had it covered. Plus the SS/Nickel who was originally on Ryen had bugged out and was covering the deep half over Bundrage.

So, we had four eligible receivers out in a pattern, from right to left: Bundrage (covered with safety over top), Richardson (covered, and a quarterback), Ryen (open but little chance of gaining many yards) and Lazard (single covered by a much smaller player).

Lazard was THE guy to go to.

If that is a pass that should not have been thrown.....to your best WR with a serious height advantage....why even throw at all? Why do we even have WRs and QBs?
CPR might really be smart, I don't know. But I think his PRIDE is killing him. It's his way or nothing. Joel probably saw the mismatch and took it. But he was only supposed to do a running play.
This is ridiculous.

Tell me how its not? You honestly think if JP calls the guy up and offers him $2.5 Million, he says no?

Yep. Because 5 other schools that aren't ISU are going to be calling him and putting the same offer on the table and at the same time Houston is offering him a big raise and an extension. Are we winning that battle? Doubt it.

Illinois has a pretty dysfunctional athletic department. The ISU job is at worst on par with Illinois.

I have no idea how Illinois facilities compare, or what the two salaries would be. ISU has the pieces that they have been missing in the past. All it takes is the right guy. Sure, we're never going to attract any coach who is already at a P5 school. But to laugh at the thought of Herman coming here just because its ISU is dumb (unless he has said things about Ames on his way out of town that leads people to believe he would never come back).

yes. He can wait a year and make 3 million at a school that wins. I think Oklahoma will be looking for a coach soon. That's what Herman should aim for. I bet he doesn't make much less than 2.5 at Houston anyway.
