Yep. Because 5 other schools that aren't ISU are going to be calling him and putting the same offer on the table and at the same time Houston is offering him a big raise and an extension. Are we winning that battle? Doubt it.

Sure, I agree 100% with that. However, to say we don't get him just because we are ISU is ignorant.

First, I would like to hear the quote in context.

Second, at the time, I thought Lanning made a bad throw and Lazard bailed him out. And that I wished we took more shots like it anyway.

Third, why send Lanning out to talk to the press and then say this? Maybe it is a clever ploy before rolling out Lanning to out-Baylor Baylor next week!

The quote is all the context there was. Rhoads followed by agreeing with Randy that Lanning would play more this week, and that they should have play "that personnel group" more against TCU.
That's it. No more development than that.

I keep waiting for one of the seniors to pull a Jonathan Moxon and tell him theyre not going back out on that field with Rhoads like he's Bud Kilmer. I am 100% behind Richardson or Lanning making plays up and doing 5 wide and all that at this point. At least it might be fun to watch at least. I guaranteed Sam Moxon, I mean, Richardson calling statue of liberty plays gets us more than 21 points Saturday.

As long as non of our coaches wear the whip cream bikini, i'm good. :)

but seriously, it's gotta be frustrating hearing this if you are Lanning or Lazard. There is a fine line between "dumb" and "calculated risk." Throwing in Lazard's direction is far from dumb....he's the best guy on the field and will make a play or prevent the D from making one. And, at some point, let these guys play...don't make them over think stuff.

yes. He can wait a year and make 3 million at a school that wins. I think Oklahoma will be looking for a coach soon. That's what Herman should aim for. I bet he doesn't make much less than 2.5 at Houston anyway.

OU and Texas will have their pick of the litter, so Herman hoping he gets that job based off a few years of experience at Houston would be a bad move. Also, he makes 1.3 at Houston, so yes he does make much less.

I have no idea how Illinois facilities compare, or what the two salaries would be. ISU has the pieces that they have been missing in the past. All it takes is the right guy. Sure, we're never going to attract any coach who is already at a P5 school. But to laugh at the thought of Herman coming here just because its ISU is dumb (unless he has said things about Ames on his way out of town that leads people to believe he would never come back).

illinois has a way easier path to wins than Iowa state. That's why you go there. You get the right schedule and you can play yourself into the playoffs in that conference.

Herman will not come here. Find the equivalent of David Beaty (who is basically Paul Rhoads 7 years ago without the initial success) and that's who we will land.

so who exactly are Oklahoma and Texas going to get?

i suspect Herman will get a big pay raise from Houston this year.

I refuse to adopt that line of thought. Thats what losers do. ISU is in a much better position right now then we were when we hired CPR, and we are in an even better position then Kansas was last year. We can attract a good coach, and to think otherwise is dumb.

Lets not forget we attracted the top coordinator in the County to Ames 9 years ago when we had horrible facilities and sub-par stadium.

ugh...not really. Would you call this a good situation for an HC to come in to? Especially one that knows equivocally how difficult it is and the inherent disadvantages that come with it? Hate to break it to you but coaches are dicks. Especially highly sought after ones but they are also smart and cunning. If they don't have to take a dumpster fire then why do it? As much as people want to think that there's some guy out there that is just so noble and just chomping at the bit to turn a dumpster fire into an ice cream social the reality is there isn't. Coaches want to win, nay, need to win, and they are going to go to the place that offers the easiest time of that and the coach a school like ISU ends up with is a guy that is looking for a second chance because they effed up the first time around or it's your 3rd or 4th choice guys, marginal guys, or guys looking for a payday.

Those two programs have what it takes to attract power 5 coaches to their school. Kyle Whittingham is a guy that comes to mind.

Again, Gene Chizik was a highly sought after coordinator, and he came here with much less resources.

its called reality.

Lets alao not forget that we lured chiz here and he sucked *** and got out of Ames and won a national title. Coaches will remember that too

Didn't he mean it as being a tough throw to make. And if it had been to somebody else, it probably wouldn't have been caught?

I mean, it was a long pass to a heavily covered receiver (so heavy they threw a flag), but Lazard made a great catch, threw his defender to the ground and scored. About 90% of the effort on that play was him.

If the pass had not been tossed like Paul wanted, Lazard would have wasted effort running down the field. Your turn.

So was CPR trying to say that Lanning didn't run the called play and was punished for doing so?

No. That pass went ten more yards in the air than any of Sam's seasonal completions.

Hmm, let's see...

And the next offensive series....

Richardson is actually a couple yards back and to the long side of the field in addition to it being caught 5 yards deeper so really is probably going about ten yards longer through the air.

Huh, wierd.

To me, this has nothing to do with Sam vs Lanning.

This has to do with recruiting a stud in Allen Lazard. A 6'5 beast. You recruit him to be a difference maker on your team. Well, he had single coverage, Lanning made the right read and let the STUD go make a play. He did and turned it into 6.

Instead of simply saying it was a great play by Lazard, he says it's a pass that shouldn't have been made. Why?

So he gets to throw two passes next time?
