Our strength this year and last year was supposed to be the offense. Mangino came in and we all praised the move. Rhoads said it was Mark's offense. Last year the offense was horrid. This year it's been average, and the change at QB was delayed far too long. Rhoads stepped in and told Mangino, as we all have been saying for weeks, that this is Lannings team now. Mangino feels like he can't run his offense effectively with Lanning, and told Rhoads that Sam's the starter as long as he's the OC. Rhoads said don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya. We'd all be complaining about Sam starting if Rhoads didn't take a stand. Now you're all complaining that he took a stand. Let's see how the change works, then decide.

You took the whole thing hook, line and sinker. Jamie loves you. Here's to 2 wins next year.

so now we've at least advanced past the silly argument that it wasn't feasible to tell the players first. As to your question, I would guess that the players care.

No, Im not passed that at all. I dont think logistically it would of worked out at all. You have a weekly presser scheduled in advance of you meeting with your players. The AD has always been great at breaking news, and not letting the media get it first. So Im sure this was a goal of theirs. Sure CPR could of e-mailed or texted his players, but as he stated, he wanted to give them the news face to face. I for one would prefer to be told one of my bosses got fired from the head guy rather then get an e-mail or a text about it.

Or....has anyone thought about the depth chart released today? How updates it and who gives the offense and defense chart to the guy who updates it and publishes it? What if MM pit Lanning as starter without talking to CPR and CPR wanted Sam as starter? Hmmm.

He started this website.

I feel like he has lost a lot of credibility recently. He was wrong on the Prohm hire then wouldn't give out his supposed info he said he'd give out.

He completely flip flopped on the Hines story.

I don't really buy some of what he said either.

Yeah, this change is going to pull the team further together and push the progress even further, this plus the bulletin board material that Texas DL through at us should be enough to end homecoming with a W..... We are due against Texas after the last 2 years.

Texas is going to run into a buzz saw in Ames. They'll think that they got hit by a cyclone.

Im still struggling to see why people think this is a big deal? Who cares that he told the media first?

It reflects poor leadership to put staffing changes out to the press before the affected members of the team were informed first.

It seems that there are many people "in the know" on here that are giving conflicting reports.

Eh, I think there are several of us posting about the same basic story. In the end, it didn't come down to, "Lanning starts or you're fired." And I completely echo what Jeremy said about Rhoads and Mangino not liking each other since the beginning. In fact, I think that was a pretty open secret. The stuff I've heard about Mangino being late and unprofessional I stated I couldn't say with 100% certainty, so I've never posted that before today. In the end, I do think this has something to do with CPR trying to do something to save his job, but also just sort of say "screw it, if I'm going out, I'm going out my way." But I sincerely hope Pollard isn't foolish enough to think that 1 win down the stretch and Mangino as a fall guy is enough to keep Rhoads another year and get even closer to the end of that contract. I hadn't heard that, but it makes so much based on Pollard's money management style. Despite what some want to believe, Hines' story had plenty of things right. If Paul goes 3-2 to end the year (I'm beyond skeptical) then he will be back, like it or not. Anything less than that, though, and who knows. But the fans probably would need to reject that narrative that Mangino was the problem in that scenario, like Jeremy said. Anyway, Homecoming this week!

Exactly, people over estimate players reactions. In fact I think the players will appreciate being told when, why, and how it all played out in person with detailed explanations even if it is after CPR told the media vs. getting a text/call saying "Mangino is no longer with us" before the press conference.

People are just looking for something else to ***** about. My guess is that CPR and Mangino got into it this morning and CPR pulled the trigger. No time for a team meeting, just got it done.

Average?

Still only capable of 20-30 points a game while coupled with a defense that ranges from adequate to non-existent.

I chuckle at all of the people saying that Sam will be starting because he is Paul's guy. Paul said in the Presser that Lanning will be starting.

Guys its not like Mangino was gonna be around next year if Rhoads got canned anyways. If Rhoads gets fired after this year, the new HC would likely clean house.

So maybe this turns out to be a turning point of sorts that saves this season (by that I mean maybe we go 4-8). Or worst case scenario, results stay the same and a new staff takes over next year anyways

Poor Mangino.

Does he realize getting demoted or fired from the ISU FB program isn't exactly a resume builder?

I imagine this was not a surprise to the team or if would have happened in reverse order....

At least to some. Lanning said at the press conference he heard just prior so he at least new. I am sure a few others did as well.

That he didn't tell the players is worse than Chizik's 2 minute goodbye where he didn't look one player in the eye

Bull ****. I am sure CPR is having team meetings now explaining what happened. Maybe he just wanted to get the news to the media before Mangino did, sounds like whatever happened between them wasn't pretty.
