Not a fan of the defeatist attitude of CPR with regard to recruiting. If you are not able to get talent, maybe you need to change your recruiting tune. CFH and CSP are bringing talent to Ames to play basketball. If CPR can't relate well to high school kids, he needs to find some assistants that are able to relate to kids to get talent here.

Basketball recruiting and Football recruiting are completely different. Get one big impact recruit for basketball and you can be a force.

IMO, we are doing better recruiting in football as evidenced by the large number of youngsters who are in our 2-deep. A lot of challenges in previous years with the Big 12 nearly collapsing certainly had an impact.

CFH used the transfer rule in basketball masterfully. And Georges Niang coming to ISU as well as Monte Morris have been huge successes. Hopeful that Steve Prohm can continue that success. So far, the team is made up almost entirely of Fred's recruits.

Ummmm, there is not a coach in the country that could get Texas high school players to come to Iowa State over Texas. If you think basketball recruiting is the same as football recruiting then you really have no business even commenting on Rhoads' press conference.

I don't consider it a defeatist attitude because it is the truth, there are many guys on the Texas team that are 5 star recruits and wouldn't even take time out of their day to talk to an ISU coach who comes to visit them. You are comparing 2 different animals with FB and BB.

Rhoads told the truth, and we all know that we don't get kids with Texas offers. I didn't take it as complaining, just more that he was proud of his guys, who wouldn't get Texas offers, beating them.

Texas beat Oklahoma. Nebraska has not beaten anyone. Nebraska just got beat by Purdue. Nice try. But Nebraska and Texas are not the same.

Look at their respective records. Wins are wins. Texas has a better defense and Nebby has a better offense. Yet wins are the story.

Nebby plays Mich State, @Rutgers, Iowa. One expected win. 3-6 becomes 4-8.

Texas plays Kansas, @WVU, TT, @Baylor. One or two expected wins. 3-5 becomes 4-8 or 5-7.

Tracking similar.

Colorado is up to four wins.....

Rhoads would come off much better praising his kids, just saying he's proud they continue to improve and work their arses off each week, and that he can't wait to get back at it this week. Going off on a rant about how Texas should kick our butts each year doesn't exactly provide me a great feeling. Also, he clearly reads the message boards, which he should never do, and is extremely defensive and feels backed into a corner right now. He's trying to sell himself to remain the head coach. CPR, if the team continues playing the way it did against Texas, you won't have to worry about it.

Paul basically makes the case that ISU shouldn't be in the Big12 for football and maybe we should be in the MAC or FCS because we aren't able to get the recruits Texas teams get...I can't understand how this is acceptable, this is the best anti-recruiting ammo out there and he hands it to the opponents on a silver platter. Hopefully our next coach doesn't have this sort of outlook, whenever and whoever that may be.

I shouldn't even reply because you are obviously to stupid to understand or just want another thing to complain about, but here goes anyway: What he said is true in the sense that Texas has elite talent (4 stars and 5 stars all over the place) and most of them wouldn't even give ISU the time of day if they went to recruit them, but our (ISU) guys went out there executed and out played those blue chippers and won. On paper this game shouldn't have been close and infact many posters on here didn't think it would be close.

This is the best anti recruiting ammo? No, I wouldn't say that. Losing is the best anti recruiting ammo. And we've given our opponents a lot of that over the last 2.5 years.

But Saturday was about the best possible pro recruiting statement we've made in a long time.

Thank you!!! Everyone is a mind reader of CPR just talking bad about our program! I agree 100% that Paul was telling everyone that on paper you weren't suppose to win because of 4 and 5 stars players that Texas has. Some of you need to quit looking at the negative on everything.

Texas is down nine of those type players after Charley skewered them.

He could have stood up there for all but one other team in the conference and said those things and been correct, in general. FFS, it's reality. If you want a staff going out and wasting your time bashing their head into the Texas, Bama, Michigan, USC wall, then fine but I would prefer we spent our time elsewhere, at least at this point.

Give the guy a break, some of you guys act like CPR slept with your wife or something. Texas should beat us every year, he is correct. He is backed into a corner, I am glad he knows it and is trying like crazy to fix it. Honestly, I am not sure what you want him to say. Guy is under a lot of pressure, anyone with any self pride is going to have some emotion. His entire point was despite our kids being less talented, we still won. Nothing wrong with that.

Texas did beat us every year we played them. Until CPR became our coach. CPR is the only Iowa State coach to beat Texas. And he has done it twice.......and a third time if you count the game we were robbed when George stripped the football.

Texas = Nebraska=Virginia Tech=Miami

Programs living off reputations of yesteryear.

Truly amazing with Texas though, even with the new coach, they still have a club med approach to games.
