I always say watching and rooting for a team in the Iowa vs Nebraska game is like being forced to kiss your mom or your sister. No good answer.

This year its like being forced to kiss either your mom OR a 35 year old single hot mom with 2 kids. Still a lot of baggage, but hot and not related...lol

So Go Big Red. They win and go to possibly a Detroit bowl game where they will probably lose and get made fun of.
it also puts in a closer end to this Iowa circus show playoff talk.

Go Clemson,Bama,ND and OU/OSU

A "True Fan" never roots for iowa. Ever. I mean never, ever ever.

Unless, like the one guy said, it would directly allow ISU to get into the CFB Playoff. But even then, there are like 10 pages of forms to fill out. You have to get them notorized, etc.

Did I mention you never root for iowa.

I remember back in '04 (or '05?) when ISU needed Nebraska to win to set up ISU for a chance at the Big 12 Championship game. I degraded myself by wearing a kNU sweatshirt that someone had given me as a gag gift (heavy on the gag). I had to shower after that game and still felt like I was getting a rash. I will never do something like that again.

I once rooted for the CCCP against the Hawkeyes, so judge from that when to root for them.

Only because Iowa fans believe we think beating Iowa is an amazing achievement athletically when in fact it's because we just want to shut them the hell up.

Again, I'm not saying I'm going to cheer for Iowa. Iowa's fans are a different story. I watched maybe a series of their game this Saturday, and a small part of me wanted them to lose just because I know how much of a meltdown the fanbase would have and it might calm the belligerence that I'm sure is going on in the world of social media. But I'm not going to obsess over them losing, and I'm not going to rely on ISU beating Iowa to keep them quiet.

If Iowa fans are to ever quiet down, ISU's going to have to be consistently competitive vs. the blue bloods, close out the games vs. Toledo and Okie State, and show up vs. beatable teams like Tech.

Not exactly sure.
The hawk fans my wife knows are now calling out the SEC as wusses. They feel confident about playing tOSU.

This is where I'm at as well.

Also, I'm ok with them winning as long as they are worse than us. I've had to watch hawkeye basketball games the past few years since my roommate was a fan. I could sit and watch peacefully knowing we trashed them.

Anytime they beat us I can't stand to watch them win a game. Ever.

I've seemed to have found that when they win is when the fans are the most quiet, like a child getting their way.

I really don't put much into the basketball game since it's in December.

The only good thing I see from this is when lanning beats them next year they will be higher ranked.

We should always cheer for the Hawks, EXCEPT when we play them. If we beat Iowa and then they go 11-1, with their only loss to us, it just makes our Cyclones look better. I know it is hard for some, but you can hate them all you want in that one game against them. We should cheer for them otherwise.

I don't have family who are obnoxious fans of the other 12 teams on our schedule.

I don't talk smack to those family members when ISU is dominating them or even when ISU is successful. I just don't think that is the way to behave. Unfortunately others don't share that restraint. For the most part I recognize that you can't choose your family and you have to spend time at gatherings with them. I try to be respectful out of respect for my wife who was born into that.

In a typical year where they're hovering between 4 and 8 wins, I'll root for them to beat Nebraska, and whatever SEC team they end with in a bowl game.

This year, they need to lose at all costs. I think I would cheer for ISIS if they were playing the Hawks.

There has been a lot of references to ISIS when talking about a college sports team.

Do people know what they're saying?

I am sure they do since its being said to hammer home that they don't agree with your point.

Listen.. I get it... the fact that people are comparing your Hawks to ISIS rubs you the wrong way, but its ok man... your boys are 10-0. Not quite sure why you need our support to enjoy it.

A) Not a hawk fan.

B) Just found it odd how comfortable people were in making reference to something that involves people dying, to something as relatively meaningless as college sports.

Point taken. When I say that I am rooting for the meteor when iowa and kNU play I don't literally hope that a meteor takes out the stadium.

Because I know that a meteor that close is likely to damage Ames as well.

Never. As much as I hate Nebraska, I hope they pound Iowa to a pulp and end their playoff hopes right there. I also want to see OSU put up 60 on them in the B1G championship game.

I admit that I'm a bit torn. I want to hate the Hawkeyes at all costs, but is there a point when I should actually cheer for them? For instance, the Huskers will be insufferable if they win. And who wouldn't like to see the Buckeyes crushed? Or take down a top SEC team?

At some point, as much as I hate to admit it, I think it is good for the whole state for the Hawkeyes to do well (and worse for the state if they have a high profile choke like us in BB last year). I'm just not sure what that point is. I don't think I can cheer for them unless they do make it to the playoff. At that point, a win is good for the state, even if it makes Hawk fans even more insufferable. But who can handle them being even more insufferable? I may give myself a ban for even considering it.

Is is there a point when any of you will cheer for the Hawkeyes?

You either don't live within a 1000 miles of a hawk fan, or you're a closet hawk fan. There is NEVER an appropriate time to cheer for that group. NEVER.
