Just to add my own thoughts, I'm very saddened by this. Paul is one of us and the type of guy we need to be successful here. Like Dan McCarney he took us to places we hadn't been before. But it's been three straight bad years and this year was perhaps the most painful because of at least three lost opportunities for wins. It probably had to happen.

It sucks for all of us but that's the business. We have the right to dream of having more success than we currently do, to be a Kansas State or an Oklahoma State or a Baylor. And now we get to try again to see if we can achieve it.

But I hope we can all thank Paul Rhoads and his staff for what he did for the program.

Paul, we thank you, but our marriage went bad three years ago and we want a divorce.

The thing about Rhoads is if he would have had success at Iowa State, as he wanted, he would have never left. Yes he loved this school. Whoever we hire may win but then does he stay?

If a new coach comes in and turns us into a winning program, then leaves for a better job, that is a successful hire. He will have led us to wins and leave the program in a better position for the next guy.

CW is sharing some knowledge on Twitter:

"General feeling I’m getting from working phone is that Rhoads keeps job if win yesterday[.] Feeling [is] that staff let team down 2 weeks in row"

"Also sounds like it was pretty unanimous from boosters to AD to president to dismiss Rhoads after yesterday."

This is why I wasn't upset at all about the loss. I knew it was impossible to not fire him at that point.

My hunch is we will see our players play better than they have all year with fire in their eyes...our staff will put together an incredible game plan..with adjustments...we will prob go for it on every 4th down..and probably whip WV by 30...and everyone will be like "Where was this CPR". Including CPR himself.

I wonder if JP and even Leath were thinking that if we won yesterday and beat WV that we still had an outside shot at a bowl game. At beginning of the year CPR was always mentioning that we will play 13 games..have to wonder if the ultimatum was bowl or bust.

If that is your ideal I don't share it. Not a "stepping stone" I want a long-term winner.

How about Craig kohl from Wyoming? Won national championships at north Dakota state. Runs power run offense and stingy defense. Beat ISU, KSU, Colorado State and Kansas on the road the last 4 years. Also, play Iowa this coming fall. (With a new coach now.) (He's from Iowa.)

WHO.
CARES?
so tired of this stupid stupid stupid dumb idiotic complaint. If the next coach wins enough to have some big name school hire him away, that would be the best thing that could happen!

What... sniff sniff... If he... sigh... leaves? I reiterate...
WHO.

It's just reality. Most successful coaches move on to better jobs. Most good coaches are ambitious. JP needs to be focused on finding a winner, not a guy who wants to be here 20 years.

Also, it's how you build your program. A coach comes in and succeeds for 5 years, then say he moves on to the NFL or another school. The next coaching hire, the program is in a stronger position to hire another good coach.

He went 4-8 in his first year there... and is 1-10 now in his second. No thanks.

Coach Rhoads didn't help himself this season or last, but I'll always believe realignment's effects on recruiting following Rhoads best years are what ultimately did him in.

How about game management and playcalling?
