My guess is that the new coach has already been chosen. Jamie himself has said that he always keeps a short list on all of the coaching positions at ISU. I think Jamie has been having serious discussions with candidates for the last couple of months. It's already a done deal.

I hope JP at least knows of a few guys that would take the job if offered. You can always try to shoot higher, but if you can't lure them in you should at least know of a guy or two that you know will accept the job if offered.

If not, I'm not sure you should make the move to fire Rhoads until you do. Because what if you can't find anyone better?

ISU really, really needs to do exactly what Iowa is doing, only better. Go under center, get a fullback, run out of the I, and then be willing the throw out of it too. Use your TEs to make LBers play pass defense, go into the shotgun and spread when you need to pass, but try to grind it out for the most part. Iowa is no more talented offensively than ISU, except maybe at QB. They are just way better coached.

Amen. Never understood not going under center in short yardage or goal line situations in a Power I with a fullback...Hell look at Baylor's 420lb short yardage full back.

Should we have Doc Sadler go have a chat with Todd Monken about Ames and ISU?

@ThayerEvansSI: Possible Iowa St. targets: Ken Niumatalolo, Troy Calhoun, Willie Fritz, Chris Ash, Todd Monken, Brock Spack, Rod Carey & Chris Klieman.

well that is the list of great coaches that you all said we were going to get! I'm sorry to have been so wrong....we won't have to hire a position coach when the fired Nebraska coach is on the list!

True. And the timing of the firing leads me to think that Jamie has a guy that he wants to hire but has to do it fast. He can't hire anyone until the position is open. It is now open. This gets the jump on all of the other positions that will open up after the season is over.

No mention of Greg Schiano (I kid) or Butch Davis yet?
I'd call Scott Frost, Bo Pelini for sure.

Is Tressel's show clause over yet?

He inherited a really good situation, tough to assess if he's a good coach at this point.

Given how Bohl has been doing at Wyoming it might have been Klieman who was the reason for their success all along. I'd be excited by that hire if he's the guy.

You're mistaken if you think Pollard is going to be making the decision on head football coach. He will have a say, but this is already above his head.

Re: Scott Frost

Of course he should get a look. He would be a great hire.

But again....coaches have to want to come here in order for them to take the job. There are countless coaches that would be great hires. But no one can force them to. They all make good money where they are at and many of them are patient and wait for the right job.

Scott Frost doesn't think that the Iowa State job is is only opportunity to ever move up in the coaching ranks.

I'd rather keep Rhoads than to get Bo Pelini. We struck out with Mangino, there's no way JP would go with Pelini, and he shouldn't.

I was told a couple of months ago that Scot Frost would be interested in the ISU job. Very loose source though. Name to keep in mind.

This is a huge mistake in my opinion. I didn't like it when Leath stuck his nose in the basketball job (even though I agreed with the decision) and I don't want him sticking his nose in this job.

Leath=Brandsted=Rasister=Trouble.
