I know it had to happen but I don't feel good about it. CPR and JP know this too. And it makes it harder.

Am I the only one who was sitting there watching the presser and second-guessing this decision? I know it's for the best, but it'll be hard for us to top a guy that is that loyal and dedicated to Iowa State.

Give me a guy who wins 20+ games over a three year span and moves onto a better job over a loyal guy who fails at this job any day of the week.

With all the complaints about CPR's ability to choose good OC's, let's remember that the first one he picked was Tom Herman!

As long as we're remembering things, don't forget that the majority of CF posters thought Herman was a terrible OC, were happy to see him go, and that he mailed it in at the bowl game.

Not exactly sure.
In hindsight. It would have been in Paul's favor to have went 4-8 that first year. Having had the early success with the poorer recruiting, easier early schedules, and some assistants that may not have been the best selections really gave false knowledge of the actual situation. He was a new HC and a poorer first year record would have exposed a few things possibily. Not that I wanted us to have a bad record, but it might have helped him and would have helped us avoid this bad contract.

In a perfect world Rhoads would be the full-time team motivator and leave the Xs and Os to the next guy and it'd be the best of both worlds.

No one on CF ever doubted his passion or love for ISU. They doubted his Xs and Os. We can call him the million-dollar-motivator.

ehh...I don't think anyone who isn't an Iowa state fan will focus on that much.
Yeah, you're right. Potential employers are going to focus much more on Rhoads' press conferences and locker room speeches than they are on his on-field results.

Get a grip. McCarney was in a very similar position to Rhoads when he left ISU and it took him 5 years to get a head coaching gig.

That's why there has been tension on these boards.....head and heart...most of our heads say "get rid" due to the W/L, but man, the heart says keep him.

I am thankful for CPR the man and coach. Wish it could have worked out, but happy he was here. If I were a high mid-major, I'd call him and offer him today...or, if I am a head coach needing a recruiter/quality position coach, I offer him good money today.

Yeah, I don't remember very many people being upset at losing Herman. Hindsight is 20/20.

Try not to confuse emotion with Iowa State making the right decision. Watching Rhoads' presser reminds me exactly why we all (or most of us) like and respect him as a person. Hard to imagine someone more loyal to Iowa State in the coaching world these days.

But, in the end, you have to win and Rhoads didn't do enough of it in recent years.

Rhoads to North Texas? I don't think it's outside the realm of possibilities. Hawaii is open too so he could apply there for a 4 year vacation.

My entire bodice needed this. We just could not, in head or heart, afford to fall any further behind. I don't know if we'll dig out from this, but I know this is the only shot we have. We already gave Rhoads a sympathy year this year imo.

Did you seriously just thumb your own post?

I've done it twice on an i pad with two of my own posts. Wish there was an un-do when you fat finger the screen.

It is painful to think how close he was to winning enough games. Just think about the close games we lost during the last few years, and even with the plague of injuries last year.

Cant dig out? I think this team is loaded with the right coach. Paul did a nice job rebuilding this roster, he just couldn't piece the game part of it together. I think we are in way better shape than last year.

I've liked everything he has said so far.

I could have done without the part "I had a chance to go somewhere else but I'm loyal". BS "I wondered if someone was going to ask that".
I just don't buy it, unless CPR wants to be specific about an offer so it can be verified. It's just so easy to say that.
