If I were a betting man I'd put my money on our next coach either being Nick Saban or Bill Belichick.

Just spent an hour or so drinking a couple beers and reading up on Stitt and honestly, I love this choice! It might be a bit tough since he's only been at Montana a season. . . .

Thanks for the link! Seems to me, on the surface, Bob Stitt would be a wonderful hire. Art Briles will not out-think Stitt.

For those who are interested, check the video at about the 8 minute mark and at the 9.45 mark. Paraphrasing, those who think we do nothing but pass are wrong, we'll have a 1,000 yard rusher (said previous season his RB had 1,000+ and 50 catches). Fastest team in America, 89 plays per game. Wears on the defense. And 11th in the nation in time of possession.

Defense loves the offense, because there's always a chance with high-powered offense. . . . Will have the toughest offensive line possible, got to have great line play. . . .

It'd be hard, maybe, to uproot his family, since he wants constancy for his boys. But, maybe a couple of million a year would be good for his family, too?

I agree, that's tough to do, no doubt. I think we have to try though. Yeah the schedule is tough but Rhoads proved that all you have to do is win 5-7 games here and you'll start getting big time offers. With our facilities and fan support, if we can "springboard" a few coaches it wouldn't seem like such a graveyard and hopefully we eventually get one to stick.

Exactly. I don't know why so many are living in fear. Some people say it can get worse but not really. It's more black and white now, we're either bowling or not bowling. The money makes everything different these days and we're getting a lot more of it than we used to.

Stitt is 51, and based on what he said in his Griz hiring video, I suspect the FBS school that hires him will be his last stop. Just a guess, of course. . . .

Bring Les Miles back to the Big 12. ISU is much different then when he coached against us. (only semi :jimlad: gotta start big!) What is the worst that can happen, he says no?

He say's yes, and then no, and then yes again, and then no, and then yes but tanks the program even worse by leaving after 1.5 years with 4 total wins.

Geez, I'd pay extra money - maybe quite a bit extra - to see what Stitt could do with Lanning, and Warren, and Lazard . . . and Montgomery, and Dailey, and Wesley, and Epps. . . . 80-plus plays per game, high time of possession (resting the defense). Man. Yeah, I'd pay extra to witness Stitt working on the ISU sideline. I sure would.

Just spent an hour or so drinking a couple beers and reading up on Stitt and honestly, I love this choice! It might be a bit tough since he's only been at Montana a season, but it would be worth throwing the checkbook at it. From my research, it looks like he is making $175,000 this year plus a potential $50k bonus. If we went in and offered him like $1.5mill + incentives we'd still be giving him a huge raise to come over as well as save us a bit of money until he proves himself at this level in this conference.

I love his style. I love his offense. I love his personality and how much family means to him. I just think he'd be a great fit for Ames, Iowa and Iowa State University. Plus, I don't seem him bolting for the first job offer that comes if he were successful here. You don't stay at Colorado School of Mines for 15 years if you're looking to bolt. LOL!

Loved watching his press conference intro at Montana. Great personality and a fun guy that just wins. He gets my vote as of today!

I don't have any eligibility left (or talent for that matter), but I'd play for Stitt. thanks for linking that vid!

Sometimes I wonder if it would be worth the 5 year show cause penalty to hire Jim Tressel. I could give up the chance of going to a bowl for 5 years if it meant the team would be greatly improved in that time. Don't think many recruits would be willing to give up the chance for a bowl though. Doesn't matter anyway, Tressel wouldn't say yes to ISU. There you go, random coach thoughts.

That would actually be an improvement in wins over the last 1.5 years...

Guess I'd better trim my enthusiasm for Stitt, because I'm so excited about the prospect of what he possibly could do at Iowa State that I'll be deflated when the announcement of the next coach is made and it's not him.

Usually during coaching searches I'm curious, but I don't become overly enthused about any one candidate like I've become excited about a Stitt hire. (Well, I did become pretty wound up in 2006 about Harbaugh.)

ISU Football's Johnny Orr. Late career change from major program to low program. Large personality. Your post makes me think we've moved up from a 0% chance to a .0000001% chance of getting him!

We also have some of the best turf in the country! Les could eat grass for days up here! I'm hyped! Let's do it!

For what it's worth, which may be nothing but thought I'd share anyway...

My friend's son plays for Montana and the Stitt to ISU rumors are active over there. He's hoping against it because it would mean his son would be playing for his third coach in three years but he also thinks Stitt would do a good job here.

If I have to hear how people are excited about getting an FCS Coach any longer, I might just snap. Someone explain to me why people have a hard on for this Stitt guy?
