Anyone else find it ironic that JP didn't want Jerry Kill to get the job because he didn't want to do that to the players, but he has no problem transplanting the entire Toledo football program (minus the players)? Haha...no complaints here. The rich get richer and finally we are the rich (in comparable terms only)!

Just a little math (hopefully not too messed up)...

Considering that there are typically around 20 TX players on the roster at any one time, that would come to about 4-5 TX recruits per year. Over 15 years, that would be 60-75 TX players. Assuming that there have been 15 contributors, would mean that ISU misses on 3/4 or 4/5 of the TX players recruited. That doesn't seem great...

Campbell bringing in his guys doesn't make much of a difference to Toledo. Toledo has stated they want to make an outside hire for head coach, and that new coach will want to hire his own assistants.

Hope Chris updates the staff on the front page of CF, so I don't have to try and figure out who is a new and who is just now getting reported

With Missouri coaching still up in the air - If Odom leaves to be Memphis HC, I wonder if there would be a chance to get their DL coach Craig Kuligowski as DC. He coached at Toledo with Pinkel and followed him but almost left last year to be a co-DC at Illini. Makes about $300k now so not out of market range. 2014 DL coach of the year, recruits Georgia and Texas area looking at past targets and Missouri's DL has had more 1st rd NFL picks in the past 6 years (4) than in our entire history. (FWIW - Toledo should look at either Mike Tressel from Mich St or John Henson Mizzou OC for their head coaching gig). Fill out the staff with Strohmeier from Iowa Western for WR and Eli Rasheed and get Austin Flynn to take the Director of Football Ops position and that would be a very solid staff.

Well they just announced the first assistant who might be my age or older. I guess this means I am middle-aged.

I was kind of upset when Matt Campbell was hired.

Not because I wanted someone else hired, but because I am a few months older than him. Which makes me old.

Then I realized we got an exciting young coach and I felt better about it.

I am curious about how the actual transition from Rhoads to Campbell is handled at the actual facilities. Does CPR clean out his office when the team returned from West Virginia and he's outa there? Likewise with all the assistants? Seems as quick as all this is transpiring that it would be difficult for the returning players to not be confronted with the prospect of finding the right words to say to former position coaches. Since the season is over and no bowl forthcoming maybe the facilities are vacant of players short term.

It sounded like CPR moved out pretty much prior to the WV game or shortly after. He knew that he was leaving the week before. A lot of time with firings you move out of your office that day in the real world.

I am sure the position coaches not retained have already moved or will be moving out in short order. Hirings and Firings can be quick anywhere.

Fine:

Wiltz
Ruth (He'll be there next year, trust me)
Syria (He contributed when he was here and healthy)
Syire (Same as above)
Waggoner
Dunning
Meyers
Stokes
Ecby (COntibuted while here)
Lynn
Omoile
Dika (If he hadn't been hurt, he was our best guard when he was here)
Alvarez
Black
Alburtis
Garrin
McDowell
Rubin

Those were all contributors and I'm going to ignore injuries because I don't have any reason to think where you came from influences injury. So, diminish TX if you want but we have gotten some guys from there. That said, it looks like MC has thrown up his middle finger to the narrative that you can't recruit OH, PA, IL, and MI from the Big 12. He even has a theme song. It's NSFW but that's how he roles.

Way up there
The state of Texas has the best high school football in the country, that's a no brainer. However, ISU is very bad example to use to prove that notion. The best argument for recruiting Texas would be to look at CPR, his staff slowly drifted away from recruiting Texas kids, as the number of Texas kids on our roster declined, so did the number of wins. FWIW, we had 9 total Texas recruits the last 2 years and only 1 signed so far this year. That's unacceptable for a big 12 team. Campbell and Co need to focus on Texas, if only bc CPR showed them how not to win at ISU.

I agree they need to at least have a presence in Texas, but I don't think you can draw any kind of conclusion that a lack of Texas kids had anything to do with the last couple of years. If you could convince people Texas kids could overcome poor coaching decisions, you might be on to something.

This is exactly who I was thinking of the mizzou guy. He would be an incredible hire..tremendous recruiter. And I agree on recruiting..seems MC is going to recruit upper Midwest hard especially Ohio which is fantastic

I just turned 35 a month ago, and am currently older than 96% of NFL players, 89% of NBA and NHL players, and 86% of MLB players. People who were born the year I graduated high school now have a driver's license. Go to the grocery store and look for the "If you were born on XX/XX/XXXX or later, you cannot buy tobacco!" signs. Those are great too.

Conventional wisdom is that we have to recruit Texas, and we should. But going to that state and competing with 4 DI Programs in your conference, plus an SEC school is no slam dunk. You are fighting against a lot.

Sometimes you have to figure out what you need to do differently. Campbell seems like a really smart guy. I am interested in him turning conventional wisdom on its head.

Am I the only one that is at least a little concerned here? I thought he would bring a couple of coaches, and keep Ayeni. But we continue to hear more and more names from his Toledo staff? Is it normal to essentially relocate a program?

Maybe this experiment works great. I don't know. At least you get a staff that is familiar with each other. On the flip side, what worked in the MAC and Toledo may not translate well here. Namely, recruiting the type of athlete we need to win.

I have never been a fan of coaches that bring their buddies with them. Interview and pick the best candidates out there. What works at Toledo is different than what works here. Hope Campbell proves me wrong here.

And I am not a fan of your ability to reason.
Chizik was bringing his buddies. This is bringing your staff. BIG difference. In Year 1 I would take a staff that has worked together over the learning needed by a group of guys that are new.
