I could see iowa offering later, but not for qb.

Why are you guys so quick to change HS guys' positions? This guy is a natural QB and, frankly, I'm not sure he's athletic enough to be great at other positions. What position do you have in mind for him?

Heard the same thing on Boyle. And he did/does have the size to play another position. But he's a natural QB and that's where he'll play at Iowa.

Have you seen his throwing motion? Needs major work s well as his feet. He's still young and has plenty of time to improve but he has a large frame and runs like a gazelle. QBs are usually the best all around athlete on the team so I'm not sure why you think he couldn't move?

It would help if we had more top level prospects instate, rather than just all these borderline guys. And not ones in Iowa's back yard.

Of course, I kept seeing Piersbacher's(sp?) jersey during the Alabama/Florida game, too.

Iowa is light years ahead of us right now with instate kids. They have had a lot of success putting kids, often local kids, into the NFL and they're ranked #5 about to play in the Rose Bowl.

Campbell will have to build a foundation first, before we have much of a shot at getting the cream of the crop outside of Central Iowa.

Central Iowa is a good place to start as most of the best teams and coaches are around here, especially in the bigger schools. Great facilities as well to help kids develop.

Looking at the top 5 in-state prospects for the 2017 class (Rivals), wondering what everyone's thoughts are:

1) Juan Harris, ****, 395 lb 6'3'' DT West Union, IA (committed to Iowa, for now) Other offers - Michigan, Texas, Vandy, Virigina. My thoughts - where is the ISU offer? Assuming we will give one soon on this kid.

2) Rocky Lombardi, ***, 196 lb 6'3'' QB, Valley High School (open). Offers - ISU, Virginia. Have to think we are in the drivers seat here. Anybody seen him play?

3) Tristian Wirfs, ***, 265 lb 6'5'' OT, Mount Vernon, IA. (committed to Iowa, for now). Offers - Iowa State, Iowa. My thoughts - I'd think the new coach and new energy around our program, plus the stadium updates, we just need to get this kid in for a visit.

4) Coy Kirkpatrick, ***, 253lb 6'4'' DE , Madrid Iowa. (committed to Iowa, for now). Offers - Iowa, Iowa State. I've never heard of this kid. Just need to get him in front of MC and touring our facilities. That plus early playing time and I'd like our chances. Anybody seen him play?

5) Jacob Coons, ***, 240 lb 6'4'' OLB, Solon Iowa. (open). Offers - Iowa State, Iowa. We could always use another solid OLB. Same as above - just need to get these kids around MC. I think his energy and passion will do wonders with these kids. Anybody seen Coons play or know much about him?

There are rumblings on Twitter Coons has committed to Iowa. Being from Solon, I'm not surprised.

I will be curious to see the type of interest Lombardi gets. His play didn't seem to progress from soph to junior year, throwing consistency was lacking at times. He definitely has the arm strength and is a decent athlete.

Building for the future. It is a process.

We will never have instant success with instate recruits unless Iowa goes 0 for 12 next year...recruiting instate is a long and painstaking process that takes years and years.................

I think Iowa is due for a massive fall. They lucked into this year. Could have easily gone 6-6 and would be looking for a new coach. Their recruiting has been abysmal for years. This has to be the last year they take the Iowa corn fed kids. Time to get a pipeline directly to Ames for all good Iowa HS kids. We've proven we can get the skill positions. Now we need the big uglies.

This may be your worst post in this thread, which would be a strong accomplishment.

Abysmal recruiting=Jim Thorpe Award Winner and 1st team all American and a 12-1 record with multiple honorable mention All-Americans and All Big 10 players.

im going to guess you're under the age of 25 or never played the game outside of middle school

Go look at Iowa Recruiting rankings over the last 4 years. I'm not saying we are better, but we aren't much worse. They overachieved this year. Big time. It won't last. And MC needs to be ready to strike.

Iowa has only had one top 25 recruiting class in the Ferentz era, I believe. If they lack success it's usually due to attrition, not low recruiting classes. They are the definition of "developmental".

that doesn't matter for a program like Iowa. The fact is, they do a great job of evaluating talent under KF. They have kids that can play in their system and for whatever reason, Doyle doe a better job with his raw material than other S&C coaches at other schools. I do not see Iowa falling off anytime soon. Plus, they just DOMINATE in state and that really helps their program. For years coaches like Tom Osborne and Beamer at Virginia Tech put great teams on the field without top 25 recruiting classes. Iowa is very similar. Plus, people talk about Iowa's schedule this year helping them. I contend that is not as much of a factor as their cumulative schedule over the course of time. That has helped them be in their position way more than just this years schedule.

Iowa dominates us in recruiting not based on recruiting service rankings, but finding those guys underrated by these services. This had meant taking good athletes at QB for example and changing positions. This also more likely to happen in the Midwest, outside of recruiting hotbeds that are so heavily scouted.

Player development has been top notch at iowa also.

Can confirm as someone who went to CRWASH during Lombardi's tenure that he is an absolute maniac.
