Re: Long Out Rest of Season

The silver lining is, of all starters, his production or value as an actual player is the easiest to replace. His leadership will be greatly, greatly missed though.

Terrible news. Hope his career is not over.
This is going to put more pressure on Burton. I'm afraid it's going to take him 2-months to get in bball shape.

I don't follow the NBA much, did/does Naz have a shot at landing somewhere whenever his college career ends?

If so, says a lot that he's willing to push for a medical redshirt over resting up and preparing for a draft.

IF Naz gets medical hardship waiver it could keep Monte around especially if Matt continues to play lights out along with Malou coming in.

Having Naz and Monte both healthy on next year's team would be pretty spectacular.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

We can still win games without him. He only had 6 points vs iowa. So it's not the end of the world.

I don't disagree with ISU replacing his point production (having Matt, Hallice and adding Deonte).

There is no replacing his emotional role and leadership that he provided on the court.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

NCAA bball medical redshirt is less than 30% of games. He played in 8/30 = 26.7% So he's under that threshold. He should get it easily if he wants to. but with his best friend and roommate gone I don't know...

He specifically said he wants to shut it down to get back to 100% for next season. If he gets a waiver, he's coming back.

Leadership = production and value

So no, it's actually one of the hardest to replace.

Is it just regular season games? The longer our season goes the smaller the games played percentage becomes.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Needs to be asked:

Would sitting him until conference play made any difference?
If he could that's what he would be doing. I'm assuming that he needs to sit out a prolonged period of time per the Docs.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

So what knowledge do you have that makes you believe he'll not get it, despite all evidence being of the contrary?

Because that is how these things go. And would he really want to play on next year's team?

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Ouch, that will definitely hurt the team's potential. I was afraid this might happen since he came back so early and played so much. Still, no guarantee things would have been different if he'd eased into the season.

I hope he gets a red shirt but if not, perhaps he'll come back to play the second half of next season. Best of luck Naz.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it all or nothing for next season. Either he gets the medical redshirt or he is completely done.

Yeah but imo it seems like McKay and Niang are more of the leaders

Overseas yes. Not the NBA.

Pretty sure. I bet he gets it. They have reams of documentation for this one.

I'm not worried about him getting the Medical Redshirt I'm worried about him being healthy enough to matter.

Actually not at all. Ask anyone around the team and Naz is one of the main guys.

He'll obviously be around Iowa State for the rest of the year, but you are kidding yourself if you think this isn't going to kill this team in a lot of ways.

For one thing, Jameel is going to have to completely stop whining about things.
