Regarding the medical hardship, Naz definitely qualifies. He's played in less than 30% of the games, it's still the first half of the year, and they'll have enough evidence to show it's incapacitating.

I've seen a couple guys play who were granted medical hardships this year, but I can't remember who they were offhand.

My heart goes out to this kid. He's given us everything, and you know it's killing him to not be able to compete and play out this season with guys he calls his brothers. This is the nature of sports, and we have guys who can step up (Thomas, Burton, and Cooke), but we will miss Naz's leadership and clutch shooting ability. Wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in an ISU uniform next year.

We'll see. I'd put the odds at well over 75% that he doesn't play in another game for Iowa State.

If he's granted a medical redshirt, I'll make a bet with you. If he plays another game as a cyclone, you stop posting forever on this board. If not, I'll stop posting.

An usher standing behind me said this last game but I didn't post here because I didn't want to believe it and I knew the reaction I would get. Said he hasn't played enough games to negate a med red shirt. This sucks but let's be honest sg has the most and only depth

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Look if you want to believe that a) the NCAA will grant the redshirt, b) that Naz will be healthy enough to play, and c) that he will even want to play without pretty much everyone other than Matt Thomas who he has been at Iowa State with, then go right ahead.

You are seriously the best. Just the best.

That's really ****** on Jeff's part to speculate like that.

Those guys don't necessarily speculate. Usually they know something. And honestly, this was one of the first things I thought of too.

Maybe Naz will go wherever TJ ends up next year.

People keep forgetting that we're not losing 100% Naz who makes game winners. We're losing 60% Naz who was in pain and it caused his defense and scoring to be less than his best. Yes, the depth hurts. Let's give Thomas and Cooke and chance here to step up.

This team will rebound just like we do in games we're down. Gotta stand by our guys.

I'd like to be wrong. I spent the past two days telling people not to panic about a 9-0 team. NOW WE HAVE A REASON TO PANIC. I won't apologize for it :)

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Like I said, I doubt he gets it. Or maybe he'll just be done with basketball. I sort of doubt he'll really want to play on next year's team.

Because that is how these things go. And would he really want to play on next year's team?

Actually not at all. Ask anyone around the team and Naz is one of the main guys.

He'll obviously be around Iowa State for the rest of the year, but you are kidding yourself if you think this isn't going to kill this team in a lot of ways.

For one thing, Jameel is going to have to completely stop whining about things.

That is the least of our worries. We still have a ton of spots open and that is assuming Monte will be back---which he won't.

Not at all. Does he really want to play here without the people he came in with? Frankly, I think that is as likely as anything. He didn't say that he looked forward to coming back to Iowa State in that statement, did he?

We'll see. I'd put the odds at well over 75% that he doesn't play in another game for Iowa State.

Iowa State will miss Naz Mitrou-Long for his leadership and vocal presence as much as anything else. Matt Thomas more than capable of making shots. Hallice Cooke will also need to step up. What I don't understand if why Long made an announcement now. Could have sat for a month and seen if felt better. Gotta wonder if he will graduate and try and play elsewhere next year.

Is it just me or is this just stupid speculation from someone who is clueless?

CW discussed this on the radio too.
