Iowa State will miss Naz Mitrou-Long for his leadership and vocal presence as much as anything else. Matt Thomas more than capable of making shots. Hallice Cooke will also need to step up. What I don't understand if why Long made an announcement now. Could have sat for a month and seen if felt better. Gotta wonder if he will graduate and try and play elsewhere next year.

---------------------------------------------------

Is it just me or is this just stupid speculation from someone who is clueless?

I really can't imagine Naz playing for someone besides Iowa State.

He didn't say that, all he did was report what Goodman said. Made no hints or anything that he heard anything too. Just simply reading what Goodman wrote.

Ok, that's good.

I just didn't think Jeff was making a huge leap in tweeting that and I think that those guys often know what is going on before it becomes public info.

There are 3 hurdles that we have to cross before we see Naz in a Cyclone uniform again and I sort of doubt we see all 3 of those happen.

This is a legit reason to panic.

Hell, I'm not the publisher of this board who is apparently on the radio saying that there is a chance that he'll transfer to another school to play next year.
Maybe you should read the article that CW wrote about Naz yesterday. Or the article in The Iowa State Way about Naz. Shows that this dude is a Cyclone through and through. You make it sound like he's on bad terms with everyone else on the team except for the starting 5 and that there's no chance he would even want to play with the lowly 2016 Cyclones.

Re: Long Out Rest of Season

Oh I'll completely concede your points b and c. But you started with an unequivocal declaration that the NCAA would not grant the medical redshirt and backed it up with "Because that is how these things go". Not only did Yelk get the medical hardship waiver, he ALSO got the exponentially more rare 6th year of eligibility.

At ISU.

In football.

If Brady Ellingson gets one and Naz Long doesnt, there will be hell to pay.

What reason would he have to transfer? He started for a top 5 team. If he plays next year, he'd be an integral starter for a likely still tournament team. Where would he transfer to be in the same position?

My heart goes out to this kid. He's given us everything, and you know it's killing him to not be able to compete and play out this season with guys he calls his brothers. This is the nature of sports, and we have guys who can step up (Thomas, Burton, and Cooke), but we will miss Naz's leadership and clutch shooting ability. Wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in an ISU uniform next year.

I agree wholeheartedly!!! Naz is an absolute warrior in every sense of the word. Whenever he takes to the floor you can rest assured he is going to give the team nothing less than the best he has to offer. He is an incredible young man and one of our leading ambassadors both on and off the court. We will miss him and wish him nothing but the best!

This is big news, I wish Naz the best. Luckily it's coming at a time where Hallice Cook is seeing increased minutes and we're getting a big addition in Burton. We have enough talent that hopefully we can maintain through the meat grinder. Any more injuries and this year could turn scary.

Next year's team isn't likely to be a tournament team.

But I've got this. We don't need Naz this year. And he'll be back next year.

Lol, Naz isn't playing elsewhere. The timing is to insure he has the best possible chance for a medical redshirt, and also because it's probably clear that he isn't going to be medically right.

At least that quote will give the chicken littles something to panic about (on top of losing him this year).

Coincidentally we add a player the same week he announces he cannot play the rest of the year.
Just maybe the guy manned up to give us a good start, and now see's another player coming on board and knows we have depth. Just a thought..

As disappointed as I am about this news, I'm just as excited about our prospects next year with a healthy Naz. Guy has the skill and leadership to be the key piece to that team.

Based on what? I agree with others here, you suck. Go home and kick your dog or something.

Not at all. Does he really want to play here without the people he came in with? Frankly, I think that is as likely as anything. He didn't say that he looked forward to coming back to Iowa State in that statement, did he?

If he transfers who will he be playing with? Idiot.
