The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this was the plan all along. Get as much from Naz as they could before Burton was eligible.

I thought the same thing. I heard that if he played in the 9th game he wouldn't get a medical redshirt. Hence, sitting out Sunday. Prayers to him and a complete recovery. The dude can ball and is a great ambassador for Iowa State.

I am absolutely not trolling. I think alot of people on this board fail to understand how chemistry impacts performance. I sincerely hope I am wrong but I think 11-2 non-conference and 11-7 conference is very realistic.

It's not like he's transferring or he died. He'll still be with the team at all games and vocal on the bench.

Is this whole situation a great thing? Absolutely not, but at long as everyone stays healthy this year I don't think it impacts our team that much this season and improves our squad next year

There are different theories on the Ark Pine-Bluff game. (1) It was a let down spit and the team was just going through the motions or (2) The team looked really bad without Naz regardless if it was a letdown spot or not. Michigan State beat that team by 46 points. Everyone wanted to say originally that Ark- Pine Bluff game could be ignored because Naz will be back. Well now he won't be. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and you can look at my posting history, usually a glass half full guy, but I stand by the 22-9 prediction and two days ago I would have said 26-5.

Not terribly full. You'd have Morris, Jackson, Long, Thomas and Cooke rotating between the 1-3 positions most likely.

But due to needing to stay in games, I think our starters( who have been criticized for lack of defense lately) have partly struggled because of not wanting to get in early foul trouble. Tough to turn up the defense and worry about early fouls at the same time.

Our defensive problems against APB were to being too aggressive, not from trying to stay out of foul trouble. If they wanted to stay out of foul trouble, they would just sag off and the back door layups would not have happened. The problem was, we got quite a few steals early, then everyone was overplaying the passing lanes and weren't zoned in enough to do that and prevent the backdoor cuts.

Would naz take our last scholarship available for next year assuming no players transfer or leaves early? I'd be alright with it but a freshman or sophomore would need to step up big

I think most assume in this scenario that Ashton would drop back to walk-on status to keep us under the limit. But I also think that the coaches must realize a juco/grad transfer who can play the 5 is critical for this team. If they want to add one of those, either Morris has to go pro (which I think is likely) or somebody else on this list has to go. The other alternative is to hope Carter and/or Ernst really develop before next November and hope that Lard can give quality minutes.

Yeah but I'd rather have Naz in the big 12 then in the first 9 games. Plus it probably would have gave more minutes to Carter and Ashton.

I think part was some denial about what level he needed to be at to be productive as well as how long it would take.

Pretty big gamble for the entire season IMO if this was the case. Which is more important - a couple extra wins during the nonconference season, or being full strength for the conference season/conference tournament/ncaa tournament grind? I think the answer is pretty obvious.
