Selfish, selfish Naz. I guess one senior season isn't good enough for him. Mr. 'Big Shot' needs two...

And then foul trouble hits.

I'm not sure what you're arguing about?
Are you saying they won't be any good?
Are you saying they won't be as good as having Naz? Or are you still trying to say they should play Naz?

Iowa St doesn't have a choice but to only play 7. If there's foul trouble, they'll bring in someone inexperienced. It's not rocket science.

Like I've said multiple times, there is no room for error moving forward. Still doesn't change the fact you can be very successful only playing 7 guys
Which is why I wished Naz would have waited till he was 100%. We can be successful will 7 but it'll be harder.

I still think Naz provides more value next year than this year. We went 7 deep in 2013-14 and it worked. If an injury happens we're screwed but that was kind of the way it was going all along as long as it wasn't at the 2 spot. Carter/Ashton can play spot minutes if needed with foul trouble but there's going to be a drop off. It really just comes down to Thomas continuing to play like he has and Burton being solid for us, if both of those happen we're not really going to miss a beat IMO

And then foul trouble hits.

Foul trouble hits everyone. There are maybe 3 teams that if one of their top 2-3 guys gets in foul trouble there isn't going to be a big drop off. The other stars step up in that situation because they get more opportunity, that is what you want. Not 5 studs sitting on the bench that are a ready made replacement for every player in your starting lineup which is what it seems like people think we should have.

I'd rather have the scholly open to be honest and get that transfer big.

That transfer big that 1. You don't even know who it is/if available and 2. May or may not come to us? I'd rather have a sure thing in a healthy Naz than leave a scholarship open for something that has a high percentage of not even happening.

He is waiting till he is 100%.... Which is next season.

If Naz sat out this season from the beginning, waiting to be 100%, we'd have been playing 6 up till this point, then 7 until he was healthy, which may not have happened at all. So you're still playing 7 guys!! Math ain't hard.

First, I hope Naz fully heals and gets better soon. He's a great Cyclone, and he'll be back next year.

This team WILL rally. Huge opportunities await Thomas and Cook. We need inspired play by these two in particular. Burton, I hope is our "Kane" player coming off the bench and able to get to the rim and open things up for these guys beyond the 3 point arc. A little unfair to him at the moment, but he needs to shake off that rust quickly and give ISU proper minutes right away. I'm sure he knows what's at stake now, and how this team needs him to play strong NOW.

This team is TOO GOOD to let Naz’s departure hurt them. They have to come together and continue with this year. Still, this is Iowa State's year. I still see a Top 3 finish in the conference and a Big 12 Tourney run. (Which is fine, the important thing is putting this team in a solid position with a good seed to succeed in the NCAA Tourney) But what this fanbase wants most is the FINAL 4. ISU still has the talent to get there with a nice tourney run.

Naz is still there, at practice, at the games… he will push Thomas and Cook to be greater. He can still inspire these guys.

Hilton needs to be rocking for the remainder of the year.

7 is fine with me. Burton was going to steal minutes from who? Let you best players play as many minutes as possible

Monte - 35
Georges - 31
Jameel - 31
Naz - 31
Nader - 26
Thomas - 26
Cooke - 15

Tell me who you would want to play less minutes if Naz was still playing.

We played no defense in 2013 which is what allowed us to stay out of foul trouble. This team is not as efficient offensively as that 2013-14 squad. Depth can be overrated but you aren't going to survive Kansas, Oklahoma and West Virginia with seven players. We only survived Morgantown last year because we could go 9 deep.

Honestly, you have to think about Hallice Cook. This is WHY you transferred to a better team. This is his shot at big minutes on the BIG STAGE. If he can have some big shots/games for us like Naz did his Sophmore year, we can still be sitting pretty.

I'm looking for big things to come from Mr. Cook the remainder of the year.

That's pretty amazing seeing as only 8 guys got minutes that game.

I'd love to hear the 9th guy that played in that game...

This team currently is a top-25 team in defensive efficiency while fouling the least of all 351 NCAA teams. Maybe that changes when we get into conference play. We also happen to be #3 in drawing the fewest fouls.

Also, if your expectations include planned wins @KU, @OU and @WVU, then I can see why you would be so worried. But that's a problem with your expectations, not with the team.
