Crowd Noise

At KU they blast music over the sound system. During the OU/KU game, when the announcers were commenting how loud the sound was during that one time out, on TV anyway, it seemed like a good deal of the noise was blaring from the sound system.

This. I was at the Mclamore banked 3 game 3 years ago and while it was very loud in there the speakers were deafening. I was shocked.

The crowd was great. But a lot more empty seats than we've had recently for sold out games. It's those fans loss for missing last night!

I saw one section in the upper deck above the team that had 3-4 rows at the top nearly empty. Other than that, from my POV, there were very few empty seats. Students filled up their overflow, and that place was packed.

What has happened to our music levels inside of Hilton? It feels to me that it is WAY lower than years past. I think it was Texas last year or 2 years ago that the music(bass) was chest pounding loud and it hasn't been that way at all this year.

Anyone else notice this?

I didn't think the sound compared at all to last year's Oklahoma game or this year's Iowa game.
Also, there were 5 empty seats in the row in front of us and two on the aisle just beside us. Very strange to see so many empties.

The section behind the band was extremely empty as well. Is that the section for student-athletes? Five to seven whole rows (80 seats roughly) were empty in the second half. I did not look/notice in the first half.

I thought it was better than Iowa game this year but not much compares to the last 15 minutes of the OU game last year, except Kansas. Kansas is always the most insane.

It is the student-athlete section but it's also the section where they give away tickets to local junior high basketball coaches and whoever they feel like bringing. It's a joke that you have a sold out game and then give away lower level tickets to them.

I don't know if they turned down the music volume or not, but I do know when the crowd gets loud you cannot hear the music or the announcer at all. Which is great.

Somewhere on Hwy 30
Empty Seat Excuses borrowed from our friends to the east:

8:00 PM start
Baby it's cold outside
Football ... wait that doesn't work, does it?
#1 team was here ... wait that doesn't work either
Did I mention the 8:00 PM start?

My personal favorite is when everyone knows music is playing but can't hear it enough to get in clapping rhythm, then there's that awkward 3-4 second transition while everyone tries to get in sync with the music after it quiets down a bit.

If you noticed, it re-filled up after the second half started. Lots of those guys were football recruits. They met with the coaches during half-time, then came back.

Why do they let the band start playing in the middle of a spontaneous Cyclone Power chant by the students? I love the band, but that was a buzz-kill late in the game as the student chant faded accordingly. Let the student chant dominate the timeout. Don't compete with the best feature of the fans . . . the students going crazy.

I've noticed this through the TV.
The last few years the music was blasting. I would crank the volume on my TV and feel the energy of the crowd and music.
This year, I would crank the TV and I could only hear clapping, no music.

Whoever is in charge of volume for the music, crank that **** up! If people complain about it being too loud, tell them to bring those little foam ear plugs. And MORE SANDSTORM!

Haven't even come close to needing earplugs in the upper corner so far this year!

It sounded to me as if the crowd could have been louder and perhaps even more intimidating. Could have been that:
- ESPN gimmicked the mikes or their positions so that the announcers could be heard more easily and clearly,
- The crowd wasn't as worried about the team's ability to keep control of the game, or
- Oklahoma (basketball at least) doesn't bring out the vitriol. Bring on Kansas!

Crowd was loud early and often, hell even the rich folk down in parquet were up early and often. Lots of noise all night it was a great atmosphere all game. By the way how clearly did "Spangler sucks" come across on tv?

Very clearly. Haha
Almost as clear as the guy yelling "bullsh*t" sitting right next to a tv microphone. Lol
