If you don't like the new staff then find another place to play. Frankly, attitude was a glaring weakness in this program the last few years. I imagine the players who care are loving it and the ones who don't will hit the road.

Not exactly sure.
Guys that want to go can go, and you take the consequences on the field in the near future to make a better long term future, that is my logic.

The reasoning being so what if keeping these guys gets us 3 wins instead of 2? or 4 wins instead of 3? Because that is what these guys do as has been proven.

Wow, generalization at its finest. If a team has a 3 win season, they all suck and get rid of everybody. Because they are all are losers. Why do you want to keep any players? You never answered that, you just said there are three awful players we gotta keep. I never said keep all, but there are way more than the three players you mentioned that are solid players.

The house cleaning begins. We knew this was coming. More will occur after Spring Ball when the new staff really has the chance to evaluate the players and their skills sets and ceilings. Expect more.

Seems like a pretty simple message - Get on board with the new program or get out. I'm fine with it. No doubt there are more departures coming but there's roster attrition every year, and even more when a new staff takes over. I'm still excited to see what CMC can do with his players and the returning guys who decide to buy in.

So this is the thread that the CF tweens are posting in today. Fantastic.

I feel like I let you guys down... I was just going to start a thread before this came out.

Heard through come people close to football players that about 20ish players have left or are leaving the program. TWENTY. Reasons why: Campbell to business like and staff about winning, not family oriented like CPR, coaches spending time on young guys and new recruits has been taken wrong way by older players, etc.

I fear these two are the first of many....

I don't care who you heard it from... It might be correct, it might be wrong. More times then not it's not... Whatever...

I really don't care how the current players feel about this. It's their performance and bad coaching by CPR that brought this change. The family feeling certainly didn't produce wins. Nor did it keep 5-10 players each year from leaving or getting kicked off the team anyway.

Why not buy in and try something new. The old way didn't work.

Also this staff was hired with very little time to recruit. I'm sure they will have plenty of time now with the older players since signing day is over.

Saw some key players at the recruitment day celebration in Sukup. Tucker, Peavy, Lazard. They were positioned to be signing autographs on posters, so they seemed to be embracing the new regime.

There was a comment by one of the assistants that had to rub some current players the wrong way. It caught me off guard. He was trying to make a joke and it missed. Not a big deal but if I was a current player it might have bothered me.

Players leaving under a new regime is as old as dirt.

Dumb move by Montgomery as a senior.

Thomas is a bit of a head scratcher because he would be 2nd to Mike Warren, but would've still seen plenty of PT.

I know there will be turnover, but it would be really bad to see seniors/upperclassmen give up who would be starters or see a lot of PT in the fall if they stuck it out. It's not like Campbell is going to hand the entire team to true freshman in year 1. I get kids liked CPR and the family man attitude, but I'm sure they could learn a lot about life by endearing themselves to Campbell and working to improve and help turn the program around.

I thought Rhoads was about blue-collar guys going to work with their hardhats on. And I thought the goal was to win championships. Was that not true? Or did these guys just get away without buying into it last year? If so, then they are just getting what is coming to them.

From what I hear from Toledo, Coach Campbell and his staff did care deeply about his players there.

This is a key time for former players to show that they are committed to the program. We know that Coach Rhoads did some of his own house-cleaning a year ago. Frankly, I'd be surprised if there are 20 guys who fit the description above. It might be 20 if guys who felt entitled to their positions are now being threatened.

Coach Campbell said quite a few times that the "best players will play" (whether they are brand new recruits or current players). Yet, they have to prove that they deserve it. That is what is supposed to have started happening this week. If guys can't handle the competition, then they don't deserve their positions. In great programs, there is always competition for each position.

So were we a few coaching decisions away from 6 wins last year or 10-20 players away? Which is it?

I was under the impression that we had the players to get it done, but not the coaches. This sucks if it's true that we are losing experienced guys. If it's only these 2, then fine, but 12-15? That is going to hurt any chance of being a bowl team next year.

Most of these decisions to stay or go, are going to be made by the players. If they want to buy in and work hard, then they'll be on the team, except for maybe a few less talented players.

Haha my thoughts exactly, I will gladly sign up for some mediocrity after where CPR had us.
Medioctrity is 6-6. Yeah, I'll take that. When was the last time we had a long string of 6-6 years with bowls games every year? Oh, that's right...never.

Jake needs to take Paul's Hard hat off and realize a storm of mediocrity would be a huge step up for this program.
The "like a family" stuff is great...and I think Campbell will run a very tight/family like program. I've also heard that Jake was lucky his dad WAS the coach as he likely got grace others didnt.

Yeah recording devices and film didn't happen until 2001, that's right.

Im definitely done here.

Can you at least say the publication that rated our class #2. I'd really just like to see it.

IDK who Andrew Smith is, but Indian Outlaw (person who RT'd it) is Jake Rhoads. Paul Rhoads son.

I realize a RT isnt an endorsement but I found this interesting considering I've heard from a good source close to the program that there is a group of probably 12-15 guys on the team that share this same sentiment as Andrew Smiths tweet.

So Andrew Smith is butthurt that the new coaches went and recruited a bunch of kids that were previously going to a MAC school and switched to ISU. And he's implying that those MAC kids aren't as good as the B12 kids we had previously, and that we are destined for mediocrity of MAC-levels. Is that pretty much it? Because what he apparently fails to understand is that those MAC-level mediocre kids beat ISU this year.

And if our existing kids are butthurt that none of the coaches have hugged them and coddled them the past two months? Grow the **** up. God bless those coaches for busting their a**es those past couple months to put together a halfway respectable recruiting class so we can start building a Nation and not just a "family". Halfwits.

I got the sense that incoming freshmen RBs Kene Nwangwu and David Montgomery were going to get shots in 2016.

Whatever people say, I wonder if guys simply saw the handwriting on the wall . . . namely that they were going to have to compete with guys and were likely to drop on the depth chart. If they came here to play, but not compete for their positions, then they probably aren't the right guys for competing in the games.

Yeah I get that, but I seem to see people are ok with these departures. While it is probably inevitable, it just sucks nexus these older guys were talented and we lose a lot, there isn't any way a bunch of freshman make a bowl game. The pieces are there - they just need to stay.

I guess I just hoped that these kids would see how close they were to winning a lot of these games, and a better coach could allow them to actually win those games.
