IDK who Andrew Smith is, but Indian Outlaw (person who RT'd it) is Jake Rhoads. Paul Rhoads son.

I realize a RT isnt an endorsement but I found this interesting considering I've heard from a good source close to the program that there is a group of probably 12-15 guys on the team that share this same sentiment as Andrew Smiths tweet.

Rather ironic on the way he put that considering a "storm of mediocrity" would be be a generous statement to make in regards to what this team has accomplished for the last few years.

I also wonder how much of it is related to the strict rules related to practice and class. 6am practice. Sit in the front 2 rows of class. Show up for class 10 minutes early. Coach Campbell said these things in his recruitment day press conference.

It's a program that needs a culture and talent overhaul. Doesn't mean there aren't good players there, but overall the talent level just wasn't there. So that means some heavy turnover is necessary. It sucks for the individuals but it would be a red flag if there wasn't any.

We all saw how fast and effectively they recruited, I would expect that same energy and urgency managing the current roster.

Thomas is a bigger loss. We need someone to spell Warren. Luckily we have a big back coming off of a RS in Croney, Ryen, and two solid looking incoming freshman.
Not only that, but Harger looked ok in the action that he saw last year. He's the type of guy that will fight his *** off for that extra yard, and hang on to the ball while doing so.

Is Andrew Smith a player? If he isn't then he's gotten too much play already. It's freaking twitter.

Id rather have talented guys competing for positions than players coming here thinking they deserve to be out on the field because they somehow intriniscally earned by chosing to come to ISU.

We need to have a culture of competitiveness, grit, and toughness. We need players who strive for wins. Not players who expect a free pass for playing time just because of how many stars they had out of high school.

Ok.... Also, who is Andrew Smith? And why should we care what he says? Does he have anything to do with the team or players?? Or are we just pulling a quote from a random person???

And if that's why someone left, they'll learn soon that there will always be some "rules" in life that you don't care for and you need to navigate.

I'm of the believe if you can be disciplined in areas such as the above, you also will be more disciplined in film watching, not false starting/jumping off sides, etc.

maybe CMC could get some cyclone hard hats to pass out to all the players on their way out?

I certainly don't want a whole bunch of players to leave, as I felt really good about our overall talent level last year, and felt they were just a few better decisions away from being solid. However, I understand that some of them will feel like they signed up for a certain culture, and may want to explore their options. I get it, but hope that a lot of them decide to give this a chance.

It's not a matter of wanting them to go or not wanting them to go. Or of them not feeling great about the new culture or whatever. We signed quite a few more spots than we had spots for. Great for the future, but we need somewhere in the area of 10-15 guys to leave to get to 85. That's 15-20% of the returning roster, which was about 70 guys.

It's being talked about because Jake Rhoads retweeted it.

Might it be this Andrew Smith (a former Hawkeye track athlete)?

Ah, so the 'we' is referring to Iowa State. I thought he was referring to football players.

And why does that matter??? I"m sure Jake was the first person in line wanting his dad fired. I hope he packed his bags and left as well. As well as the younger one. They really didn't serve a huge purpose on this team and a waste of space on the team... Especially if on scholarship. Which I don't think they were but still.

So Tucker, Campos, J. Thomas at DE. Who else is so good we can't replace? I would like Curtis to stay as I think he will blossom into a nice RT. But right now he is a depth guy. There is no one else really that stands out. Please name some names...

That's why I don't want them to leave, we suck there already just hoping a few will turn out from all of the bodies. Otherwise we're looking at 3-4 years of suck while we wait for Run CMC's guys to mature.

I don't mind Campbell purging the team a bit. Players obviously need to buy in.

But I hope he isn't purging just to get rid of people. There is some talent on the team.

Thats fine but purging the #3 receiver and goal-line running back seems like a great idea to me.
