Did Fred mess up not taking Peter Jok?

So basically I'm predicting that ISU basketball won't be at the top-3 seed level for quite some time, after this season. Regardless of what happened in 2000-2002, that can still be true. We'll see. Niang has been transcendent for the program but his time is up shortly, and I don't like what I see on your bench right now to replace him, outside of Burton but we can all agree that Niang is a lot better than Burton. We don't know if Morris will be back next year and certainly don't know if Naz will come back and be who he once was

I agree with this. I think ISU is a lock top 25 team next year if Morris is back. Malou is going to be really good I think plus I'm sure the staff has an idea of who they can get for another big. If Morris leaves I think ISU will be on the right side of the bubble but won't be a top 25 team

I think ISU is Top 25 with or without Morris. Don't forget we are adding Jackson as well. Prohm has developed point guards in the past.

I'd go as far to say we are Top 15 with Monte back and Top 25 without him.

You aren't serious in warning ISU fans about next year, are you? You do know who iowa loses and who they have coming back, right?

Good luck trying to stop Burton next year.

Yet again when ISU/ia meet, ISU will still have the best player on the floor. Maybe even the top 3 players if Morris stays.

Here the same thing year after year from Hawkeye fans:

Good luck replacing Royce White
Good luck replacing those seniors Babb Clyburn Luscious McGee
Good luck replacing Kane and Ejim no chance
Good luck losing Hogue and BDJ you have no depth

And Kansas got blown out by an OK State team with home losses to Missouri State, George Mason and Tulsa, plus a road loss to TCU (not to mention a 2-point home win against Minnesota). Bad nights happen, and Iowa was certainly due for a game where they play down to their competition.

I was correcting someone who said Minnesota has been playing everyone close lately. I never said bad nights didn't happen.

On a side note, I think Iowa's lack of depth is starting to show and that's why the defensive intensity hasn't been there the last two games. The starters look tired out there

You had an NBA coach during this era.... I'd call this apples to oranges. Prohm recruits more traditionally than Fred and will thus have to develop guys over time, the way that most coaches do it. That doesn't allow for players like Royce White to come in and dominate. (I loved watching Royce White ball, that guy was phenomenal in college)

I think ISU's two JUCOs coming in next year will be pretty big contributors

First off, Niang is my favorite Cyclone ever next to Hoiberg. Of course you can't just replace him. Second, you do realize Naz was averaging 15 points per game before he hung it up this year, right? He has an entire year to recover and improve his game.

If you can name me three better returning cores than Morris, Long, Thomas, Burton off the top of your head I'll be impressed. Juco players Jackson and Malou who will be ready to play right away as well.

Are you Travis Justice? Or do you just watch as little CBB as he does? Heard this exact same drivel this morning.

Wait are there actually media in this state trying to prop up a 6-19 team as something other than complete trash?

I'm so tempted to just not reply to you..... Ughhhh... you're unbearable....

Naz is really good when healthy. I won't ever dispute that. Problem is, he has had an advanced hip injury and is a 2-guard that relies on his hips to get space from defenders. That spells trouble. He had 5 months to get back from his last hip surgery and couldn't do it, and had to take a desperation redshirt. Yet you're confident that he can get back to what he was in 2014? Read up on this and lose some of your bias and you'll see a little differently. Morris is great, that's why you should be a little nervous about him leaving the school after this year, since he's a consensus pick to be drafted this year if he wants and may be a 1st rounder, according to people who study these things.

I'm done with you, please stop posting to me

You do know that T.J. Otzelberger was just as big of a reason many of these guys came to ISU as Fred was during the first few years, right?

As long as Otz is here, expect us to reload, not rebuild. I highly doubt Prohm turns away any top transfers that show interest in ISU. I'm sure there weren't a ton of high level transfers that wanted to go to Murray State, which is why he probably didn't recruit that way. He may "prefer" to get guys who may be in the program for the long haul, but I'm sure he also isn't afraid to mix experience in as well.

The demand for top transfers has gone way up since Fred's regime kind of changed the game with Royce White and those other guys, and that helped a lot in drawing those guys in. Fred had a mystique about him and ran his organization analogously to the way that NBA teams work, and that attracted those 'free agents' as well. I don't think ISU will be as successful in getting high-level transfers in the future.

Ha if Naz was able to average 15 ppg five months removed from hip surgery I guess I like his odds to produce at that clip or better with over a year and a half to recover. What a crazy thought process I know! Morris is a stud if he isn't a guaranteed first rounder though I think he is back. With Niang gone and two of the best shooters in the country on his wings spacing the floor I think Morris could put up 20+ ppg and improve his draft stock much like Buddy Hield has done.

From cyclones.com

Among the outstanding recruits Otzelberger has helped bring to Ames: Craig Brackins, a two-time All-Big 12 performer; Diante Garrett, ISU’s second-best career assist man and current NBA player; Mike Taylor, an All-Big 12 performer and 2008 NBA Draft pick; Melvin Ejim, an All-American on the court and in the classroom in 2014; Scott Christopherson, Iowa State’s all-time leading three-point shooter and an All-Big 12 Third-Team pick in 2012; and Will Clyburn, the 2013 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

Otzelberger also recruited current Cyclones Nazareth Mitrou-Long and Matt Thomas, who have combined to connect on more than 200 three-pointers.

If Otz wanted Thomas over Jok, I think his track record speaks for itself. And that's good enough for me.

Well we need a stud 5th year transfer forward to play with that backcourt so well see if Prohm and Otz can make it happen. You never even tried to list a better returning core. Having a tough time thinking of any or what's the problem?

It's definitely not over, ISU will be respectable for a long time. And honestly, that's all that the non-bluebloods should really expect from their program, is respectability
