You know, I think you are right. But, I think part of it is that we are afraid of fouling. And in some cases ,they are right. With some of the very slight touch fouls we get, it would make me timid too. I played practically my entire senior high school season with 6 great guys after having a loaded junior season. I was a guy that often fouled out my junior season a) I wasn't very good and b) I just played like a mad man. I knew I could because there were other guys better than me that could come in and back me up. My senior season we couldn't do that, I knew we couldn't do that and we definitely gave up more points. We also lost more games. Dang.
I guess I kind of feel like that is why these guys are less than stellar on defense AND the fact that they weren't really that great to begin with. They WERE a pretty potent offensive set of guys. We weren't recruiting them for their defensive abilities and I'm not sure we were training them to be great defenders. Then Naz got hurt and that diminished their core set of guys for offense.
Some say Prohm should be doing something about this. But, really, have any of you ever played on a basketball team? Have you seen a team with the tendencies that ISU has change in one year, especially under a new guy?
Enjoy the rest of the year the best you can, hope Monte comes back next year and Prohm is able to assemble a reasonable front court that can battle with the Baylors of the world. And remember that you could be a Baylor fan sharing the glow of victory with 11 of your closest friends in Waco. Ugh. Isn't it better to be a Cyclone?
Baylor is a deeper team !! If you put just 5 on 5 you tell me who wins?? For all of those down on McCay the thing I can't figure out is how people have come to expect such great play from him?? Limited hands, zero foot work, no offensive moves. Other than an above the rim dunk he has not much to offer on offense. Not uncommon when people get to watch tape and see what a player does they can shut that down. The fact is McCay had a 1/2 year where no one knew what he could do. Secret no longer, and easy to shut down. He is a quality 6th or 7th man good for 5-10 rebounds and at most 3 or 4 junk hoops during a game when he is into it. Throw in a few head games and the pain is more than the payoff. So get over that. He is done after this year.

if he keeps losing it will be. 2 more losses in the regular season and we have our worst big 12 record since freds 1st year.
Why would a team that cared about playing defense not play hard on defense? You realize that makes no sense, right?
Teams that care about defense are generally focused on getting back and in position...they are also dialed in mentally on where they're supposed to be...we have FAR, FAR, FAR too many simplistic breakdowns, and we get beat down the court for layups or secondary break buckets far too often for you to convince me our guys truly care about defense.
Just an empirical observation of fouls called during the game. Any attributions you're making are purely your own.
No but as a youth coach, I know there are a lot of Moms and Dads out there who think they are gods gift to athletics but when you ask them to help out, they somehow are too busy. Best example. I was at a coaching clinic and one Dad who was the most obnoxious jerk because he knew everything, and no one else know anything, always managed to slide back in the line during skill drills. Never touched the ball. So, what I am saying, I get sick of bluster real quick, and know that watching great athletes is something special. I believe I am a true fan of the game, and understand that a player can work his or her tail off, and still lose. But I can still love watching them. If you think that makes me less competitive, or less of a fan, so be it. I don't need your approval. I just love watching the game. And as I said, I enjoy it more when we win, but I can still enjoy the competition, the skill and the effort even when we lose.
You definitely deserve better, with all the hard work you put in and everything.
This person you were mocking, has his priorities straight and appreciates the guys that put in more work and care more than any of us what happens on the court.

One thing that is and has been a problem is this team has no length. Some teams in this conference have so many players that can take up a lot of space when guarding and in return make it hard to guard them. Niang was so coved up at times tonight it was hard to get him the ball, same goes for Thomas, he had a hard time getting open for a shot. Lets not forget Baylor beat ISU twice last year also. The way CFH beat Baylor prior was shooting over them, with 3 good guards. This team doesn't have that.
The other thing is at some point the ball does have to bounce your way. It seems ISU isn't getting many fall in your lap shots or lose balls and other teams are.

There are talented O teams and talented D teams and ones with balance. We were built with O in mind. To ask them to play great D, to have the best form and understanding and capability to hand off assignments to one another smoothly is maybe too big of a thing to ask, especially within one year. They were set up to outscore other teams until Naz went down. Now we're trying whatever we can to win. That rarely is even going to be good D. Acceptable D is all we can ask and to play the kind of O that were are capable of.
I really think that is the story and unfortunately, that won't take the team as far as we hoped this season. But, that is the life of an ISU fan. If you need great D and O with results that live up to your high standards, then I suggest you pick any number of teams that are able to recruit McDs year in and year out. You will find better odds with them. And likely fans with your same needs and temperament. As that is where these kinds of fans tend to end up.
So you guys would be fine if ISU lost every single game they played, as long as it was close, and both teams competed? Uh, ok.
Listen, I get it was a tough game, but we had a chance to win in every single one of our losses, and I generally feel we lost those games by poor decision making and poor execution. Or one might say fundamentals. If that happens 4-5 times a season, well, ok. But this is turning into a pattern. And I'm glad you can enjoy watching the Cyclones lose games they should win. I guess we just differ in that way.
