No matter what the sport, players don't want the season to end.

Yeah, if they're having a decent or good season. I've seen plenty of players in plenty of sports practically beg for the end of the season after they've been getting their heads beaten in all year.

Would love to see BF go to the bench in this game, and not pull them with every little mistake. What's he got to lose with Seanna out?

You pretty much got your wish. Too bad nobody could hit the broadside of a barn tonight.

The sub'ing was like musical chairs with the music stopping before anyone could get moving again. It just seemed like everyone was in panic mode. CBF would react and sub. Players would react and throw up a shot off the mark.

Every time Emily missed a shot she would get yanked. At least she was looking to shoot. I feel so for her and wouldn't blame her if she decided to go elsewhere after this season.

I was disappointed in CBF's post-game radio comments. He complained about this being his worst-shooting team. That may be true based on stats, but why? The players are good shooters.

Also complained about the rebounding, acknowledging that Seanna makes a difference in there. Kidd was the high rebounder with 6. You can't argue with either of those complaints.

But he seemed to put it all on the players. Okay, yes, they are the ones playing the game. But when the stats for all the players are low, then maybe it's not just the players, maybe the coaches should be doing something differently. Maybe they need to be doing something to put players in better positions, maybe they need let players get comfortable and get on a run, maybe take a more positive and supportive teaching approach.

When the team as a whole underperforms over a period of time, it isn't just inconsistency by players. Admittedly limited practice time could be the main reason. It could be that simple. But we've grown accustom to the coaches making up for some shortcomings. Not so this year, and maybe the opposite effect.

his comments spelled things out. Why sugar coat it? I can only imagine this veteran coaching staff is as puzzled at this point with the poor shooting as anyone. We do know these ladies can shoot. The reason might be the Cubs run into the playoffs. I jest, but this is a puzzle that's obviously not easy to crack.

What is there to be puzzled about. Coach has said they aren't shooting well in practice either, yet we continue to take record setting number of 3 point shots.

In games, good shooting is the result of fresh legs and being "set" before the shot. And our team is neither fresh, nor is our offense producing a lot of good set shots. Everything is so isolation based. So many last second desparation shots, no inside/ outside action. I knew we were in for trouble when our 1st 6 or 7 shots were all threes. I know BF is a layup or three system, but it's time to work on a mid range game that isn't only from ISO or just for Mere.

The important thing is that he got his two Mountain Dew cans front and center for the camera. Priorities, man, priorities.

Last night looked like a JV scrimmage against the Varsity. Our entire team (minus Jordan) where getting minutes. They were trying but where CLEARLY in over their heads against K-State. Against K-State... Let that sink in. This is just a miserable year all around.

Hard to disagree with much of this. While BF has to be frustrated, my wife just shook her head in disbelief listening to the radio on the way home. We all know how much of shooting is confidence, and the head coach spent 10 minutes railing on how bad they are.

Just no easy answers for this one.

To be fair to the girls - It is not like they are just wide open in rhythm shots that they are missing. To just call out the shooting is short sighted. There is no dribble penetration. No Post threat that the defense has to sag in on. The perimeter passing is slow and telegraphed. So to simply say that they are bad shooters is a cop out

What's puzzling? This has been a long time coming.
1) The Women's program has been in decline for at least 4 years.
2) Over that time and especially this year, Bill's recruiting or lack thereof has been exposed. We simply are no longer competitive in the Big 12.
3) The offense stinks--but the set plays haven't changed in at least 10 years. It's way past time for some new ideas--new coaches.
4) When you look at a video of the early 2000 teams and compare it to the last 4 years, other than the name on the front of the jerseys, the differences are jarring.

I agree with all of these points but, wanted to talk about recruiting. I think BF has gotten much more "picky" in what type of player he wants to bring in. Now maybe it's a result of the high transfer rate the last few years, but, it seems he and the staff have narrowed their focus in terms of player types. BF is an "in your face" coach and needs/wants players that can handle his type of coaching

Let's look and next year. I have nothing against international players and I hope that the 2 young ladies are great in our program, but, I find it hand to believe that there were no players in the US let alone the Midwest that we could have gotten. Maybe BF eliminated to many kids early and due to his narrow focus, is now having trouble recruiting here

As BF has gotten older, his patience with the players has gotten thinner and his temper has gotten worse

Thoughts??

There were several offers out for next year's class in the Midwest, they all chose to go elsewhere....I guess it is difficult to recruit against Pingeton, Bludder, and Yori, among others.

Points discussed:
Substitutions; last night CBF seemed in a bad mood from the start of the game. As was posted he was pulling players for every little mistake it seemed. When you do that you cause players to not shoot as they fear getting benched for a miss. This is not what he has preached in the past.

Shooting; We have some good shooters on this team(just look at other games) it just seams we are in a real funk right now. I believe the injuries, causing not being able to practice is part of the issue.

Offense: it has gotten to predictable and has way to much dribbling. We need to be more spread out on the perimeter and pass more.o many times we end up with three players on the side standing 5 foot from each other. Not to hard to guard that set up.

Rebounding; Our posts have to be more physical. They are getting pushed out from under the basket and are reaching to much for the rebound. To many times when we put up a shot you see most of our players with their backs to the rim heading back on defense.

Recruiting; We have had issues the last few years. We have lost players for various reasons. Some we lost could have helped a couple IMO were not Big 12 caliber players. I also believe CBF looks for players that fit his system and we fail on some recruits because of many different reasons. My biggest complaint is we do not use our bench enough. If a player is good enough to get a scholarship they should be good enough to play more then our bench has done the last few years. We looked tired at times last night and we did use more of our bench than we have in the past. I like that as IMO it makes us a stronger TEAM.

End of my thoughts, as someone who has not missed but a couple home games in 20 years I still will give my support to this and future teams. Go Cyclones!!

I cannot see that Fennelly recruited against Pingeton. Yes, Missouri has a Top 25 class but the three are not in the ISU area. Two are from Columbia, MO (including Pingeton's niece) and the other is from Florida.

Agree, the team, every player, the coaches, the program all deserve continued support. All are good people, and they and the program are to be respected. When things aren't working though, improvements are needed, whatever those might be. Various factors this year have exposed key areas that need improvement.

Hopefully the coaching staff takes the initiative on improving. I don't really like Saban, but nonetheless was impressed with his staff arranging workshops last summer to learn more about coaches and players to get better all around.

This article on Arizona State success was posted to ESPN:
http://espn.go.com/womens-college-b...ild-arizona-state-sun-devils-back-top-10-team

Some of their approach sounds very similar to ISU's. Sometimes it just takes some attention to detail (as CBF preaches), and that may mean improving things the program is doing to get better results.
