The ACC has "protected rivalry" games where two teams that are not in the same division still play each other every year. I expect that the Big 12 would develop some sort of scheduling system that would allow for that.

I'm so glad this is a message board, and nobody here is actually in a position to make decisions.
Take a look at the average income of the DMA for UCONN vs. Memphis and its not even close. Besides, UCONN having a much larger audience they also have a lot higher income and advertising $$ are important to a conference network.
Why are you so obsessed with hating on a school that simply has a few small requests in scheduling minor sports? I think some of us know exactly why.
BYU has a great fan base, filling their football and basketball facilities a majority of the time. Provo is basically in Salt Lake City so it's not like they're out in the middle of nowhere. Are they my top choice? I'm not sure but I know they're above UConn on my list.

This school has a football team???? Have they ever been on television???? They need to focus on a wall! We already have ours built at the M****gan border! The Rockets wouldn't even bother scheduling them. Hurt our strength of schedule!!!

Ironically, with Boren in the mix, I wouldn't be shocked if the round table discussions are rather similar to what we have going on here.
They're probably all nervously checking in on this thread for feedback. Fingers crossed Boren's reading my posts...
If we go west it's BYU, CSU doesn't have a chance, and they don't deserve one. It's only BYU if they are a member just like everyone else with no special stipulations.(but I doubt we go west).
Cincinati is the lock.
Houston is the next most deserving, but being in Texas kind of hurts them. Then again, it could hurt the Big12 even more if another conference scoops them up... Big12 recruiting took a big hit when aTm went to the SEC and blew the pipeline open to them.
UCONN makes some sense, but not in location at all. Memphis makes a lot more sense for location, but isn't as good of a program.
ACC GOT dissolving would be best case, but who knows if/when that actually happens.
Without the ACC Cincinati, Houston, and BYU are the best available... Unless Notre Dame budges, which will happen eventually but it'll take them just barely missing the playoffs but could have got in had they won a conference championship.

Simple. They are losing 30 million a year now. if they increase revenue by 50m which making it a conference network would likely do. Of course instead of paying out 15m they will have to pay out 75m. Keeping ou and Texas whole and 5m to everyone else. So they would be losing only 10m a year and not 30m. So a net gain of 20m. Texas is forced to do this because they know that espn is better off just saying screw it sit on the tier 3 pay Texas 15m and do nothing with them. Now if espn can pay for the infrastructure over a bigger base they may end up actually making money. If the satellites add it and they can get streaming subscriptions as an add cHannel plus enough clout to force basic cable in Texas and many of the B12 marketc they may do all right. As of now their goal is stop the bleeding and that may mean adding more to lose a little less.
Houston is a one sport school that is mortgaging itself in the hopes of someone, anyone, inviting them to a P5 conference. They are not a good addition unless the conference is totally falling apart and schools like ISU and K-State are desperately inviting any AAC/MAC/MWC school with a pulse.
If it was all about who is the best school to add based on their program its BYU hands down. Unfortunately for BYU, the league is moving East not West if no other reason than who the real prizes in future expansion is such as FSU & Clemson. Yes, UCONN is not in their geographical area but at least they are in the same time zone and may help this league get a network which is a major incentive to try and bring those schools here.
I agree, Memphis over UConn all the way. Adding Memphis and Cincy makes more sense. The big question with the divisions would be if Texas and OU want to be split up or not. Arguments for both scenarios. Don't think there is any way OU and OSU are split, just like KU and KSU.
That hurts, but I will lick my wounds thinking about 9.19.15. If barely a pulse, there must be member schools in cardiac arrest. Had to say it. I'm sorry. Go ISU.
Toledo isn't the worst program we've lost to- you're not that special.
