I think people wouldn't be as worried if they were really mistake about not knowing the offense. The last pick was just all around awful decision making independent of a new offense.

I've already agreed with you that the last INT was really bad.

Is it a mistake? Yes. Is it worth his starting spot? Absolutely not. If a dropped ball is worth a starting spot we better bench Lazard next time he drops a pass. We need to bench Warren if he fumbles again. Hell! Warren fumbled in a critical time in that game and no one is saying a word! Weird...
Nobody is saying that. Nice reach. It's hard to deny though that he made multiple critical mistakes.

I don't know maybe we aren't really different then. I know I never leave games early but right after that pick I left and didn't stop walking at all until I got to Towers.

Before that I was all behind giving him time to continue to work on it and get better. I really just lost my hope after that one.

After watching J. Lanning's throws last year, this Spring, this Fall (so far), I think that it is accurate to say that approximately 50% of his throws are right on the money, and approximately 50% are not. In Saturday's game, some of his throws were "spot on" and the rest were short or simply off target. I am coming to doubt that that is good enough to win Big 12 games. Name me another starting QB in the Big 12 that throws the football like Lanning.

I didn't leave until the game was over and most of that was because I didn't want to try and walk through a bunch of people pissed off. So I sat in my seat and let it clear out. I'm not happy about the outcome and I'm especially not happy with Joel's final 5 minutes. But I saw plenty of things in the first 3 1/2 quarters and the final 5 games last year that gave me hope that he was our guy and I'm not gonna let a really bad INT at the end of the game change that. Find me in 3 weeks, and if nothing has changed I'll gladly eat crow and welcome Park into the game.

He completed 55% of his passes last year and 65% of his passes in the first game. That's significant improvement albeit a small sample size. Deshaun Watson for Clemson only completed 55% of his passes in the first game. And a lot of other notable quarterbacks (Kizer for ND, and Buechele for Tex) were around 60% in their first game...

We'll see. Hopefully you're right I just lost my hope.

Campbell says that Park has practiced well and has put himself in a position to earn snaps. #Cyclones

Campbell said he wanted to get Park into the game but didn't find the right spot. Campbell doesn't rule out using Park sometime this season.

Certainly some interesting comments from Campbell who has been impressed by Park. Sounds like we will see him sometime this season.

Campbell still has faith in Lanning that he's the guy. Just wants to get Park some time. #Cyclones

Fumbled snap, easy fix.
Safety - OLine couldn't block anyone.
Miscommunication with Trevor Ryen on the first INT, easy fix.
Final INT was bad but it gets hectic during desperation time.

So overall, I would say the last INT was the only "inexcusable" turnover. Before the final 2 drives, he was 17-25 for 235 yards and 3 TDs. Don't forget the first 3 1/2 quarters when judging someones performance.

Fumbled snap easy fix yes, inexcusable also yes.

I can't see Park not getting a couple series against eiu this week if things look the same. You have to believe the job is still Lannings, but he will be on a short leash going forward.

A bit off topic; when was the last time we've had a true quarterback? I know our offensive scheme has needed a running QB to run the zone read the past 7 years, but I don't remember being confident in any of our QB's passing abilities...Arnaud maybe the last one who could really manage a game?

We should be better than last year and so should they, unfortunately we are not at this point. Too many mistakes. New coach new system and more youth than expected so more mistakes. They will get better. We need a QB that knows how to win an ugly game though.

Just curious what you base this opinion on. I thought quite the opposite with all the attrition and then the one injury we couldn't afford. Last year's team was talented enough to win 6 games, they just didn't put things together.

I'm thinking closer to Bret Meyer.

Lanning made blunders, for sure. But he also launched 3 TD passes (if you want to give the credit to the receivers, throws were good enough for them tomake the play).

And hiis panic-stricken safety can't be entirely on him: Empty backfield on 3rd-and-10 from ISU 11, with 90 seconds left in the half, leading a 13-6 game?

WHAT

Except during crunch time, Watson showed incredible calm leadership for his team to win the game. Only one time last year did he only score 1 TD. Meanwhile Lanning is throwing to the wrong team twice when in a position to win or try to win.

I just don't get this. Lanning had one bad game, and even in that he threw some real nice passes. I hope Park can sling it, but he hasn't played football in two years. His last action was in a freakin' church league. His last meaningful read was trying to find a way to isolate Fat Bill who was only on the team because he bought the team's jerseys. I hope Lanning can become more consistent, but the idea that Park should replace him, or really take any percentage of his snaps, is a bit absurd to me.

I like Lanning...I want us to use him like he should be used and that is a running first QB who can punish defenders and then throw the ball where appropriate..Lanning doesn't have a ton of experience yet. Wts..4 or 5 turnovers and a bad safety decision in one game isn't acceptable. Reality of it is if Lanning continues to have several TO's a game he can't be the starting QB..

Please tell me there aren't people out there that want Lanning benched after ONE game...

I've seen "short leash" used, and then with MC making comments about Park playing, which doesn't necessarily suggest a benching but doesn't do a ton for his confidence either.

It's never as bad as it may seem after the losses and never as good as it may seem after the wins. We want Lanning to calmly manage the game and make fewer errors, but most of us can't even calmly manage our time on a message board. A bit ironic!

Frankly, I have much more confidence in Lanning's ability to improve!
