I said this in another thread. Campbell said something like this a couple of weeks ago: Our "A" (best) players must play at an "A" level for the team to win. You can not hope your "B" (average) players to play at an "A" level.
I would view Lazard, Lanning, Warren, Cotton-Moya, Tucker, Peavy, and Harvey as our "A" players.
I thought Lazard, Cotton-Moya, Tucker and Peavy all played at the level we need to to play at on Saturday.
Lanning, Warren, and Harvey did not. Harvey left the game with an injury and I think that impacted our LB groups ability to make plays against the run. This showed in the second half. Lanning was great in throwing the three TDs, but the three turnovers were game changers and for the most part unforced. Warren has been hyped as one of the best backs in the Big 12, but he had a critical fumble and was pretty much a non-factor in the game. Yes, the running was tough but he is our stud and he has to find ways to make plays.
It is easy to criticize the offensive line, but I thought they played at the level we expected or maybe even a littler better than that on Saturday. Pass blocking was outstanding for the most part. They gave Lanning all day in the pocket. We haven't been able to throw deep routes like that consistently in a long time. Running the ball was a struggle, but some of that had to do with the penalties. They not only negated some runs, but they also put us in situations were we could not call a power run play.
I think CMC will play the best guys. I think Lanning is our guy, but he has to show it on the field.
