I'm sitting down to write about this right now but I've been working sources today about Iowa State's running back situation and specifically, Mike Warren's status.

What I've come up with: It sounds like Montgomery has simply beaten him out. He's been much better in practice as of late and I guess it hasn't even been that close.

Also sounds like Warren's early season fumbling issues (and dropping of passes) probably had something to do with it.

---

As far as the QB's go, I'm hearing that Matt Campbell really liked how the position was managed late in yesterday's game.

At this point, I'll be very surprised if we don't see Park be the guy in the middle of the field with Lanning being brought in in short yardage and goal line situations. Staff believes Joel is the best runner on the team and love him as a leader. Don't want to bench him as they still believe he can and will help them win. I assume this situation will continue to evolve.
Very fortunate not to have lost one or other for injury. Playing both may have prevented injury. I like playing both. Just wish we had two OF position coaches to choose from.

They are getting the QB strengths figured out. Now if they would just run Lanning under center with less than a yard to go, we're making progress.

I think Montgomery has been the best RB, especially as of late.

As for QB, I'm fine with going mostly with Park and using Lanning mostly in the redzone, however, are we going to take the read option out of the playbook then for when Park is in? Park is not a runner, and KSU knew it and only had to concentrate on the RB on those read option plays. They are pretty worthless plays if Park is in the game. Not that Park can't run a little bit, but he's going to get broken in half if he runs much, and other teams know that.

I like what Park brings to the table, and I think he could definitely be a "better Steele Jantz" type QB in the future. However, I'm on the Lanning train as for who I would prefer to see take more snaps. That goes with saying that after San Jose St, I felt Park would be THE GUY by now. Perhaps Park has more upside, but I like Lanning as the guy to lead this offense for the most part. I do like the different styles though and hope they continue to play them situationally.

Obviously we don't see the practice side of things and perhaps JP is making a strong case at taking over the QB position. Regardless of all that, I feel good about the QB situation in 2017/2018. I feel like we've had better QB production this year than we got from other QBs going back to the Arnaud years and all those that followed. 2011/2012 certainly had their moments from the QB position, but I think at worst we have seen similar production to those years.

As for Warren i hope he can work through whatever issues there are. I agree that he seems to be a liability catching the ball, and in today's game, especially for ISU that is a key role. I hope Warren turns it around and remains an important player in the offense the next few years.

it is weird, since mike was a face of the program last year and has the same position coach. Lou has to be the one on the decision. We may have recruited over mike. Idk, but if he is better I can't til til we get a better OL. Still live to see a two back set every now and again

If Mike isn't putting in the work off the field and in practice, and Montgomery is, then it's an easy decision for any head coach. I'm not saying that's the case, I'm just saying IF it is.

CMC alluded this might be the case earlier in the year though.

I predict cmc is going to do something to get us excited and get momentum during the off season like a new offensive strategy, coaching change, or something

New uniforms and maybe new entrance. That ought to do it, right? I mean, what else do you need?

He brought over his entire coaching staff From toledo which are his friends. He isn't going to get rid of any of his coaches.
