The Ejim comparison is alright, but kind of lazy. At this point in his career, do I dare to say that Solomon is a better defender than Ejim ever was? Ejim was very undersized in the post, and had a difficult time guarding wing players. Young is pretty good in the post already. Better than Ejim was for sure. Offense... I don't really know. Ejim was kind of an outside in guy. He shot the 3 and got garbage buckets. His senior year he had some moves but not anything to write home about. Young obviously hasn't had much of a chance, but he lacks the three ball (I think, I know he's hit 1 or 2). However he a mean mid range game, and Ejim never had that (granted Hoiberg hated the midrange). All in All I see that they both play hard and are tough SOB's, but I think that's about the only comparison. Solomon is Unique. I think he's kind of like Lamarcus Aldridge (Poor mans version obviously.)
You can identify talent but it does no good if you can't coach it. Have to give Prohm credit for his development as well. He had similar success with PG's at his last school, turning them into NBA players. Let's not forget about the improved defense this team has been playing, something Prohm emphasized from the start of the season.
I might not expect that kind of performance every night from a freshman, but if he can provide a steady presence at the 4/5, that's an element that could move ISU to another level, even this season.
The past doesn't matter- the important thing is that Solomon is showing he has the talent to be a huge part of ISU's success going forward!!!! Totally love him!!!! ❤❤❤
Playing as our only "big" covers up the fact this kid can shoot the ball.

Young has 3pt range, but he's not leaned on for offense from the perimeter just yet. It's enough he's getting a couple post feeds for now. Eventually, they will tap into his offensive skillset where he can pick and pop more. May not happen this season though.

Investment minutes get you ready a lot faster. 3 minutes at Baylor? Teach him and put him back in. Then again, communication with these posts may not be the best. Maybe he finally asked Prohm what he had to do to improve and play, like Holden had to.
In a fairly close competition and current level of play, we bet on a couple seniors improving more than a freshman imo.
I know KSU is not as good without a healthy DJ, but great job by the team last night. Hopefully Young continues to improve at a faster rate now that he's getting consistent minutes.

I didn't get to watch the game, but I was wondering what Kansas State had for size since Johnson was out. I was just curious if many of Young's rebounds were because going against much smaller players.
Most of his (offensive) rebounds came with his man helping to the strong side for a block on a drive, or something like that, and he would be all alone on the other half of the basket. He spoke on this a little after the game, stating they had noticed that in film and he was consciously making an effort to stay opposite side for clean-up boards and points.
Solomon was everything we could have wanted yesterday, the man played his role perfectly and then some.
Nope. Prohm specifically said in the Oklahoma post game that Soloman has just continued to work and never came in the office to complain. I don't think there is a lack of communication, I think there is a lack of listening and comforming to expectations which Holden and Bowie had to finally get on board with.
I heard that Solomon likes to steal alley-oops from teammates.
We got 18 and 12 last night. We need 8 and 8 nights from him to fill the huge hole we've had inside most of the year, might seem crazy demanding 8 rebounds a game from one freshman but it's not like he's paired with another big.
Nope? Nothing you posted refutes my post. I don't doubt Young or him continuing to work without complaining. I never said anything about a lack of communication, but rather the communication hasn't been the best. It's the coaches job to effectively communicate and that's not happening if your grad transfer in January has to ask you what he needs to do.
Prohm's doing a good job. Better than Hoiberg would with this roster. But mistakes happen and Prohm's learning. We're very close to having a great year. A lot of the difference is poor luck, but a little better management of the post situation would have helped, too.
