Yeah, I posted after the Orlando tourney, when he was held out with the broken bone, that I watched him shoot the ball from 15 to past the 3-pt arc. He had very good technique and a tight backspin. Even with the bad hand, he was draining mid-to-long jumpers at a very rate. Good shooter.

I haven't seen much to show that he can put the ball on the floor very effectively at this stage. Hopefully, that can be an area of improvement.
He definitely has the range in his skill-set, if we will make that a focal point of our game it wont be til next year. But I think we are in a good situation with his skills where they are right now. NExt year he will probably have a bit more of a leash to work with, and his confidence will already be there.

I said this in a different thread, and maybe my Minnesota Timberwolves fans would understand/agree with this point more than most. But, Solomon Youngs offensive game reminds me of Giorgi Deing. Yeah, Giorgi is 3/4 inches taller. But the way he positions himself for rebounds, the way he seems like it is automatic when he rises up for a mid-range jumper, and the way he is constantly working, even if he doesn't get the board. Maybe I am just noticing this because I am watching every TWolves game now that I moved to Minnesota, but his jumper and motor reminds me so much of Giorgi.

Thanks!!!

As someone else mentioned in another thread... I love Solomon's demeanor too. Just goes about his job like the bad a** he is and doesn't have to act like an idiot every time he makes a play. Love it!
This. As I watched last night the same thought when through my head, so good to see this happen. Hope it stays this way also.

Physical, good size, and a good shot out to 15-18 feet? That's someone you can work with.

I'd love to pair him with a McKay-like athletic shot blocker next year and on, whether that's someone already in the roster or a new guy.

I didn't get to watch the game, but I was wondering what Kansas State had for size since Johnson was out. I was just curious if many of Young's rebounds were because going against much smaller players.

They had Wade, who really isn't much of a banger, and then a bunch of tweeners. I wouldn't say his rebounds were due to size advantage though. I'd say it was due to effort. He just fought for it.

Question for all of you Fanatic veterans...does socalcy EVER post, or does he just sit around and disagree with any logical posts about coach Prohm?

Thanks for pointing that out. I thought I was the only one who had noticed this.......(and no, I'm not arrogant LOL)

I am absolutely for real. He is getting minutes, but has wide open lanes inside and not getting fed the ball. You can see he is extremely frustrated about it. If they would of went to him more during the 2nd half of the K-State game he probably would've dropped 30.

There is still struggles between him and other players in getting him the ball. On one play he boxed out his his guy to the top on the block and the pass came toward the basket from the corner where it needed to be but Solomon was slow getting off his guy and going to get it so it resulted in a turnover. Perhaps issues like this are why other players think a little too much before passing it in to him.

You're probably right, but I thought from the only time I saw it that Matt's pass was off.

I think both...the pass was a little too far and straight, while Young seemed to be pinning his guy but may have been off balance to move to get it.
One time Monte drove the lane and Solomon was 2 ft. from the basket wide open but Monte did the usual... an in-the-air fling out to Naz who was positioned for the three. Its been such a staple for those guys, just like the dish to Donovan for the big three at Kansas, that I think they tend to forget about a post. lol

My outlook on the season is entirely different reading this...

“They had a more physical guy than there was in there before,” TCU coach Jamie Dixon said. “It was a more physical game than it was the last game. Vlad’s baskets were at the rim in the last game. This time they were jump hooks fading away.”

My biggest takeaway was that Jackson was actively looking to get Solomon the ball. Building chemistry between those two can pay huge dividends next year.
Wasn't that play sweet? Like to see it more.

Feels to me that Jackson is probably annoyed with how indecisive we can be on offense. He attacks immediately, and makes passes crisply. Ill be excited to see what it's like when it's his team.

Agreed. I was a little annoyed at how little the other guards were trying to feed him. There were about a half dozen times when Young had dang near ideal post up position with little threat of a double team. Should have been an easy 2 each time, but we just passed the ball around the perimeter.

It was especially frustrating now that he's prove he's capable.

Ya'll sound like hok fans circa 2-4 years ago. Just like getting every rebound isn't going to make you win every game...neither is feeding the post all of the time.

Thanks for the 101. I'm just looking for us to make the obvious feeds more often than we don't when the gimme is there for the taking.

I understood it earlier in the season when we had no semblance of a post game. I'd like to see it ramped up now that Young is coming on.

Look I'm the SY bandwagon leader I basically got him his minutes. But let's not **** ourselves here he needs to just keep doing what he's doing not adding more for a freshman that's just getting his feet under him.

So Coach Gunner's recipe for helping Young grow as a player is to just have him practice his post ups with very few actual touches? Gotcha.

Young's growth on the offensive side will skyrocket with more touches. I'm not suggesting we force the issue. I would just like our guards to take the gimmes.
