Prohm Calm

I know that Coach Prohm has occasionally been called out for being too calm on the sidelines. Some have even said that he should get a technical to shake things up. Last night was a perfect example of why coaches that remain calm and have constructive discussions with the officials will get good calls. In the first half a blocking foul was called on the Cyclones. Coach Prohm didn't go Underwood (or Drew) crazy...he simply told the official that the Okie State player was pushing off to gain an advantage. Okie State inbounds the ball and the official promptly (and correctly) calls a foul on Okie State for illegal contact. There were other examples...just little things here and there that really shows how well his coaching style works.

There still might be a time for an occasional emotional outburst, but I'll take Coach Prohm every time over a screamer...

There is a difference between being calm and pointing things out and what Prohm and Fred have done. I don't think anyone is claiming we want him to act like Huggins or Dixon.

Besides the fact that you used Underwood as a coach who actively complains about calls. Underwood wasn't really any different then Prohm the official just was quick to give him a T.

There is a difference. Underwood got the technical for what he said, not how he said it.
I guess I don't know what he said and it probably was that but using Underwood as an example of an out of control coach was kind of funny.

I think his style will pay off in the future when he is an established coach in the Big XII. Once officials are used to him being fair and not to berate them, he may get favorable calls.

I also think that teams generally take on the persona of their coach, and this team is cool as ice under pressure. That's a tribute to both Steve and Fred before him.

The yelling/screeming types tend to get tuned out or cause some form of mutiny possibly.

I remember Fred getting T'd up vs. KU in the '14 Big 12 tourney and also screaming at Monte during the 1st round of the NCAA tourney for screwing around instead of just getting a bucket.

Those stand out because they were so rare.

I remember when he gave Chris Allen a little shove to the shoulders during a timeout after he had made a bonehead play. Hoiberg didn't have many outbursts, but he certainly didn't lack emotion. Prohm is no different and I really appreciate/respect the approach he takes.

I recall one time where ISU wasn't playing well, Fred called a TO, then kinda slammed (moreso forcibly shove into the floor) a chair to fire up the team.

Funny how we like the calm demenor of Fred and Steve now, when in the past we loved the animated Johnny, Tim Floyd throwing off his jacket, and the Larry outbursts.

Calm is great when things are going well...reverse our record and we wouldn't be so thrilled with a coach having a calm demeanor on the bench...
