Anyone else following this? (legalization of Fireworks in Iowa)

I'm at the slightly annoyed but it's not a huge deal stage at this point. However, I haven't had anyone wake up one of my kids yet.
I've always had hunting dogs, so the only effect that the fireworks are having is to make my dog think that someone is shooting the hell out of ducks and pheasants. He thinks it's the opener and we're missing out.
I'm finding this whole fireworks thing to be annoying, but really only because I have two young kids that are sleeping when the majority of people are firing them off. Granted, I have sound machines in their rooms to block 95% of noise for them, but we've been getting a lot of people shooting off the really loud artillery rounds close to my house.
Well, as previously stated, someone in the neighborhood was lighting fireworks. Fireworks make a big boom noise, and these big boom noises were preventing me from sleeping.
I'd really like to experience the neighborhoods that the complaints are coming from. I don't know if I just live in an are that doesn't have much or what but last night was really the first night there were even fireworks going off and even then you couldn't really hear them in the house and they definitely weren't loud enough to keep me up.
I think I must have the heaviest sleeping children on Earth. Unless a shell goes off right outside their windows, they're not even going to flinch. They routinely sleep thru heavy storms & next door neighbors mowing.

As for one that had to work first thing this morning and my 4 year old was trying to sleep - my great neighbor was shooting off fireworks that sounded like a 12 gauge was going off outside my bedroom window most of the night.
Thought about getting up at 3am later this week and ringing his doorbell until he wakes up, so he knows what it feels like not sleeping on a work day.

So just because fireworks are legal, noise ordinances are still in effect. If you have an issue with neighbors being jackasses, one up them and report a noise violation.
Most towns have ordinances that state the hours of day that fireworks can be shot off. They are allowed to have them in place. Just like they are allowed to determine where fireworks are allowed to be sold within city limits.
Two nights ago moron a block away was setting stuff off that lasted five to ten minutes, continuously. One after another. Got old quick. A whole week of this **** is too much.
Try 5 weeks. June 1st thru July 8th. There is a difference between enjoying fireworks from a distance and having it go off unexpectedly at 1030pm at night. While I'm fortunate enough to live in a neighborhood not full of selfish aholes, my kids and wife were startled the other day when some jackwagon set off some over the local public pool.
It's not as much the time of day restrictions as it is the longevity. There is no need for 5 weeks of this.
The fireworks legislation doesn't give anyone the ability to light them off at anytime day or night.
The state law says from 9 AM to 10 PM from June 1 through July 8, with cities being able to further restrict that.
I would have a hard time believing any city has a noise ordinance that goes into effect prior to 10 PM.
I'm sure police officers would tell the people to stop calling about it. Police have more important things to deal with than fireworks.
Chicago does it right, might be the only thing they do right, but it seems like 99% of the people save their fireworks for the night of the 4th. I don't really hear many, if any, being lit off leading up to the 4th. But, for about 2-3 hours from sunset until 10-11pm on the night of the actual holiday, it sounds like a war zone. It's actually pretty cool to see if you are along the lake. As far as the eye can see and in every direction you look, you see constant fireworks. Being in a boat or on rooftop are the money seats.
I use to live in a predominantly Mexican/Mexican American neighborhood in Denver and it was the same way on the fourth. Big fireworks coming from all directions. We would sit on the roof with a cooler of beer and it was a great way to celebrate the holiday. I don't know if they were extremely proud to be American or if they just loved blowing stuff up. Probably a little of both.
